Guest marioski Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 I would like to know if anyone has experienced a similar problem and how it was resolved. I've had my phone for a little over 30 days, somewhere around 45 to be exact. Everything has running smoothly with only the phantom SMS message showing it's head on the 2nd day of ownership, which I fixed with instructions found on this forum. However, today the phone has completely and suddenly died. I threw it on the charger overnight and in the morning I checked to see if I had instant messages, which I did. I checked those and back on the charger. Later on in about 2 hours I attempted to make a call only to notice that the "No Service" indicator is on and the phone is running ridiculously slow. Okay, it needs a reboot. I hit the power button and nothing. Fine, popped the battery out, left it out for a minute and put it back in. The phone turned on immediately by itself, I did not have to even press the power button. Also, the little music sound file it plays during the boot up process is no longer there and now the boot up process takes about 5 minutes usually hanging on the "Smartphone 2002" screen. Heck sometimes it doesn't even make it into the menu. When it does make it to the menu screen, the phone runs really slowly, the battery meter shows low, the signal meter shows and X along with "No signal" and eventually a white pop up box springs up stating there is a failure with the Sim card and spits out an error code of 262144. I attempted several reboots to no avail. Hard rest does not work since it usually hangs on the Smartphone 2002 screen. I also swapped SIM cards and it still did not work, however my SIM card worked in the other phone so that eliminates the SIM card. The person at the AT&T store was a tool and did not know anything, not to mention he simply did not want to exchange the phone even though it's just been a few days over the 30 day refund/exchange period. I called the warranty department and the tech person acknowledged that it must be some sort of software issue and because of that I have to send my phone to a service center and will take approximately 3-4 days to fix and then send back. They will not send me a fixed phone first in exchange for mine, so I would be stuck without a phone for at least a week. That is not going to work and I do not like that option, I think I will head back to the store sometime tomorrow and ask for a replacement. Has anybody else have this problem? Is this something that's common on the MPX200? The tech person sort of blurted out that its a known software issue.
Guest marioski Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Phone is FIXED. I popped out the SIM card and powered it on and noticed it booted up normally and ran fine. This allowed me to do a master reset since it wasn't hanging up on the bootup screen. Well guess what, that cleared everything up and the phone is working normally. Now I just have to readjust all my settings and u/l my contact list to it and I'm good to go. A little set back and a small hassle but not a big deal to exchange the phone.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Welcome to the site :D Interesting fix taking out the SIM first, glad to hear it's working now.
Guest Montana Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Alright... I have the same problem i was out with some friends went to make a phone call and the external screen was all messed up with random numbers. I tried taking out the sim and booting but to no avail. If you have any idea or suggestion other than taking my agression out by beating the phone with a bat please feel free to reply. Thanks
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Welcome to the site :D Sounds like the registry is corrupt if the LCD screen is not displaying correctly. Is everything else ok ie the main screen etc? Try changing the LCD profile in Settings to see if that has ant effect, if not then you may need to do a Hard Reset to restore the phone.
Guest Montana Posted June 28, 2004 Report Posted June 28, 2004 thanks for the welcoming, but I cant even get the device to power on. The external display wont even show that it is charging, I really dont know what else to do but to but bite the bullet and go get another one. ill see what happens if i leave it on the charger overnight, but i am almost positive that the battery wasnt drained or the issue. And do you know if the new version like the MPX220 or 300 is available through At&t anytime soon or atleast in the fall becasue i might as well just wait, and get a cheap phone till it does come out. thanks for your time
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 The mpx220 will hopefully be available in the next few months but an actual date has not been made available at the moment. You could try a new battery as cheap non motorola ones are available.
Guest fleggsy Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 On I similar note, I have had Orange replace my MPX200 three times in six months. Everytime the same problem - it fails with 'Not enough memory to init 'appman'' and then after rebooting does not get past the Motorola Splash screen - the first one on boot up! Luckily for me they now have a fault code for this and do not spend 45 minutes asking me stupid questions.
Guest stonedbill Posted July 17, 2004 Report Posted July 17, 2004 hi first of all im still quite new to smartphones so this suggestion may be completely flawed but i noticed fleggsy had this error massage 'Not enough memory to init 'appman'' could this be becuase of installing applications to the phone instead of a storage card, because i know that for the phones to run optimally you should install to a card to leave free memory on the phone for it to run, have any of you people who experienced this just installed somethign or put files onto you phone before experencing this problem??
Guest TheArchitect Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 I seem to be having the exact problem the original poster had. At this time I can no longer do a hard reset because the phone battery is dead and doesn't seem to be taking a charge. No icon displays on the LCD screen when putting on a charger. Anyone with the same problem? Any suggestions.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Some members have experienced similar battery problems and normally it means returning the handset and battery for repair.
