Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Hi people, i need broadband for 2 months over the summer. Anyone know of any ISP's that do free activation, 1 month minimum contract 512k ADSL? So far i have Virgin.net (who i'd prefereably like to avoid) or Pipex, who fit the bill but charge 60 quid disconnection when less than 12 months... Cheers.
Guest chucky.egg Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 I was on Pipex "monthly" contract, but their support is just soooooo shite that it's unbelievable. Any issue, and I mean ANY issue, with your connection and you have to call/fax their support and wait 4 weeks in my case for an answer. You can't go straight to BT, understandably, but you know that all they'll do is call BT when they get around to it. I would avoid them like the plague.
Guest Taoski Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Only for 2 months? Odd.... :? You won't want to disconnect it!! Head on over to http://www.adslguide.org where they have some pretty good advice about ADSL providers and ISPs including an "ISP Comparator" so you can see exactly who does what and for how much. They also have good reviews of DSL modem/router/wireless hardware and beginners sections etc. Their forums are pretty lively too - so you could post a request on there - or they have forum areas dedicated to most ISPs - so you can read the issues people are having.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Yeah i've been through adsl guide. I only need 2 months because its for the place i'm living while i do my summer job. Looks like it'll have to be Virgin, nevermind...
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Pipex seemed to do rather well in the comparisons and they were recommended to me :?

Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 Not that i could see. I'm unlikely to burn much bandwidth anyway, it'll only be used in the evenings/weekends for IRC/MoDaCo/email. Just bought myself one of these: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...oduct_uid=61948 :D
Guest mcwarre Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 Mono, Very nice :D Can I confirm that you get the USB adapter shown? Because that is a WG111 (more like a 'dongle') not a WG121 (WG121 is much bigger and uglier) :?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 I'll find out when i get back off holiday next week, so i'll post up a pic :D

Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Annoying as i actually prefer cable to adsl. However i can't make any physical changes to the house i'll be at. Seen that Telewest are doing 3meg for 50 quid a month? :/
Guest midnight Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 errr, i'm on bulldog, they are cheap, had a few probs last week, but all seems fine again now :D
Guest ferret Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 I'm with Zen, no problems, tech support is great (local rate phone call). One month contracts, upto 8 static IPs or 1 IP used with NAT. £27/month but unfortunately there's a £50 activation.
Guest Gorskar Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Hehe, I work for Zen doing tech support - glad you approve :D
