Ive tried downloading tones from other phone using infra red but when i listen to it, it seems a different tone was downloaded to my phone. oftentimes when i play it only a beep comes out. I tried saving it on the sounds folder but still same thing happens. What seems to be the problem?

What format are they ? MIDI or WAV ?

If you have a phone running SP2002 OS you will only be able to play MID0 format ringtones or WAVs formatted to PCM 22,050 Hz, 8 Bit, Mono.

I always use WAV's formatted to PCM, 16 bit mono 48000KHz on my Mpx200, they're quite big (not a problem I only save my ringtone and message tone on the phone, evrything else is on the SD card) but they do play well.

@ Kurtfhouse :I actually meant to put : Windows PCM Wav 11025Hz 16bit Mono , as stated in Simon Desser's original guide to making ringtones.

 :D

As others have pointed out though, you can get away with variations of this.

@Rheylynjoy : You can change wav formats with Windows Sound Recorder (Start, Programs, Accessories, Entertainment usually)

To change MIDI formats you need to look on Google for MIDI converters

The tones were already in wav. My problem is, I dont know how to convert its format to pcm or mono. what im using is a smartphone 2002. I tried to edit it thru the smart explorer EN, but the only selection available are SELECTION, FAVORITES, VIEW, FIND, REGISTER. Ive also tried thru FILE then PROPERTIES but no such thing as CONVERT selection. Please... can you teach me how. Thanks.

Copy the wav files to your PC using ActiveSync or a card reader.

I assume you use Windows. This is on a Windows 98 machine and I think it's the same on Windows XP.

On the PC, go to the Start menu, choose (All) Programs, then Accessories, Entertainment, and finally Sound Recorder.

In Sound Recorder click on File, Open and then browse to your wav files and open one.

Then simply click on File, Save As. You can use the same name or rename the file. Leave "Save as type" as Sounds.

The third option is Format. Click "Change" and change Attributes to one of the options mentioned above. Format should be PCM.

Click OK then Save.

Now copy the wav file back to your phone and enjoy :D

It should be in Accessories somewhere !

Keep looking

Which version of Windows are you using ?

Hopefully this way should work.

Rather than trying to find sound recorder, click on 'Start', then 'Run...'. Now in the window type 'sndrec32', without the quotes. Hopefully that should load Sound Recorder and you can follow disco Stu's instructions.

If that fails, click on 'Start', then on 'Find' or 'Search'. Make sure its set for files and folders and look for 'sndrec32'. When its found, double-click on it.

If both of these fail, you don't have sound recorder installed. To install it again, I'll need to know which version of Windows you're running.
