Guest skyline_gtr Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 i think it's about time i do a review on my mio 8380 i have used it for around 1 month already and i think i know the good + bad points of this phone enough to make a review good about the phone: -lots and lots of programs + games -loads of functions -the today plugin is great(it shows what i have to do without taking up the whole screen) -you can play ogg files and full quality on it! -the vibration is not too bad -excellent speed for watching videos with high bitrate with betaplayer bad points -sh*t slow menus -always hang -around 1 reset each week -quiet/crap quality ringtones(tru tones in particular) -the paint comes off so easily! -too thick -horrible battery life...2 batteries cant last 1 day for me(music for 3 hours, video for 2 hours, gaming, icq/msn, etc) -the gprs always disconnects me -i can only answer the phone 7 out of 10 times(more about this below) -when i plug my headphones in the volume is too low -crap camera quality for price paid -the side buttons jam time to time -the phone dents too easily -ringtones sometimes reset(even if on ipsm memory) report of phone.... in my opinion this phone deserves a 5/10 only...why? it doesnt even work properly as a phone itself! i can only answer 7 out of 10 phone calls when i m using the phone...i also miss calls if the ringtone resets and i only get 2 beeps..... there are lots of software and homescreens for this phone which makes it look nice and good to show off with so i give it 8 out of 10...my friends always want to play with my phone because it has lots of games that are better than the s60 phones they bought after seeing my ngage the ringtones...oh my god...2/10 only...tru tones sound sh*t...the midis sound some what better but they are too quiet and the speaker just muffles if set too loud... the movies is the only reason why i m still using the phone..i give this 9 out of 10....the movies plays smoooooth with betaplayer even at a high bitrate of something like 500kbps video and 44kHz 64kbps stereo sound..i m really proud to show anyone the quality of videos this phone is able to play gprs/internet....i give this 1 out of 10...cant get reception 50% of the time when there is signal for it with another phone using the same SIM card...disconnects frequently....enough said...however, i can use pocketIE with the gprs which means i can open lots of sites in chinese which other phones cant how does it compare to phones i own/owned? compared to s60 phones (ngage/6600) i can answer 9 out of 10 calls on both phones...they dont hang when i am surfing the web with netfront or chatting on icq/msn with agile messenger the ringtones dont reset themselves unless i use fscaller which sometimes(rarely resets the ringtone to default but then i still can hear the phone ring!) unfortunately....the volume of ringtone(midi or wav tones) on the 6600 is still kinda quiet in my opinion but the quality is a lot better than the mio 8380...and the ngage...volume is VERY loud but the quality is not too good....however, still better than the mio 8380 camera quality on the 6600 beats the mio 8380 hands down....if someone wants a photo comparison i can attach...but unfortunately i lost my 6600 already so no more new photos off that speed in general...well the ngage and the 6600 is a lot faster than the menu on the mio 8380 unless you just finished using an application/game stored on the mmc and that takes around 5 - 10 secs to refresh.. however, both phones tend to eat certain game/application icons/shortcuts after the phone has been on for a while and it needs a reset to sort that out videos....my mio beats the s60 phones...the real player that came with 6600 or ngage is crap...no full screen...cant handle anything over 80 kbps..smart movie....i cant watch ANY movie smoothly encoded over 80kbps...and the program simply crashes at any movie encoded with sound over 16kHz and 20kbps gprs/internet....s60 wins again...rarely disconnects(still does but rarely)..speed is kinda faster than mio 8380....unfortunately...no browser supports chinese in the s60 system yet compared to some other phones i used t68/t68i menu speed is about the same...ringtone volume...t68/t68i both beats the mio 8380 but unfortunately they only supports single track ringtones(i forgot what it's called)....i cant answer most of the calls on both phones either...the camera quality is COMPARBLE to the mio 8380....THIS SHOULDN'T BE RIGHT! the t68i camera is 256 colors only if i remember correctly and the mio camera..11k colors...no other functions 3HK nec c616 <--known as nec e616 on other three networks menu speed this phone beats it....reception is comparble on both phones since they both cant get reception anywhere...both cant answer most of the calls....the camera quality beats the mio 8380 once again...which shouldnt be right since they are both using 11k camera! ringtones...well...great poly ringtones from the phone but low volume...no tru tones supported here...no other functions provided by this phone except for the 3g internet which i rarely use since crap reception which disconnects most of the time samsung v208 <-- known as samsung v200/v200c in other places menu speed the samsung wins...reception the samsung wins...this one answers all the calls my friend throws at me....camera quality wins again...both 11k camera too!.....ringtones...great poly ringtones from the phone....somewhat great quality tru tones(mmf style) but the ringtones cant be over a certain kb limit(i forgot)....however this phone doesnt have any other functions provided by the mio 8380
