I'm usually the last to know these things but I've just come across a link to a BBC news column regarding Fire player and Music Player by Orange which I though looked quite good.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3843491.stm

I've checked OrangeWorld and I can't find Fire Player (maybe not out yet) but I did find Music Player under Fun-Music-Downloads and downloaded it to the SPV.

It's actually not too bad :D

The songs are bit limited but you can get a short preview for each. I eventually downloaded a hives song which cost £1.50. Considering that Nokia folk are used to paying this amount for a simple ringtone I thought it wasn't too bad.

The good thing is that MusicPlayer itself is stored in the Programs directory in storage card and the downloaded songs are stored in a MyKOZ directory also in storage card :D If the phone was to reset then you wouldn't lose the stored application or songs.

Seemingly the songs are coded in a proprietary format called Koz therefeore they can't be used in other applications but I suppose thats fair as this service probably wouldn't get the backing from record lables otherwise. The Hives song was 845KB in length.

All-in-all it's at least entertained me for the last 20 minutes especially going through the full catalogue section and finding the songs I hadn't heard for ages :lol:/

Wondered what you guys thought - HIT or MISS

Ah, not compatible with the MPx200 as yet :D , but its says check back soon and it will be. Interestingly it does mention being compatible with the C500 though :D

£1.50 plus GPRS charges is a bit steep though bearing in mind you can buy tracks from other web sites for between 79p and 99p, and with those you can play them on your phone AND burn them onto a CD (not that that will stop me trying it though  )

Out of interest martin, whats the quality like? 845KB sounds too small to be of a decent quality :?

The smallest tracks I have at the moment are WMA's at 64kbps which are about 3MB

Cheers

I believe the other networks are offering similar services and also making agreements with record labels. They say that music via the mobile networks is expected to be the next big thing :?:

I used an original SPV which worked OK. They must still be setting it up for other phones.

Yep, I'm guessing that it's more than likely to be taken up by those who do everything directly via the mobile phone. There still seems to be a HUGE market for ringtones & pictures etc so it will probably be the same market that adopts the download of music files.

As you've said it's not going to be the same quality as the MP3 and WAV files but then again considering it's 845KB its not too bad :?

Fireplayer is on Orange World on your phone.

Go to Fun, Music and there it is.

Well I remixed Fatboy Slim's Star 69 and saved it as a ringtone but when I tested it the phone had changed to Standard and no sign of the Fireplayer one

Anyone got it working ?

EDIT : Yeah, me

Saved to phone rather than storage card.

Hours of fun 8) :D

Aren't Orange ace

This is a really cool app :D Been playing with it for ages.

Tried ASH (orpheus) and FBS (Retox) so far.

Made my own rigtone but it's more fun just playing with sounds :D/

It seems to save the ringtone in Storage CardMy DocumentsMy Sounds.

I have an SPV so had to move the ringtone to Storage CardMy Documents but I think its Storage CardApllication DataSounds in some other phones.

It's a good job they didn't release it earlier or I'd have done no work today !

You can save them onto the phone (Application Data Sounds) as well.

Another thing I've noticed is that there seems to be an upper limit for file size as my 5 minute opus has been severely truncated
