Active Sync not working!

I bought my SPV today, and tried to set it up with my pc. I've installed active sync, put the phone in the cradle, and.... nothing. I tried launching the active sync application on the mobile, and when i press "sync" nothing happens. This may be related to my other post, about the little G appearing, and me not being able to run most programs.

Having the G displayed does not hav anything to do with

the ability to sync your phone.

Couple ot things to try, 1 change the USB port you are using

and 2, check your firewall settings on your pc as this can

block Activsync.

what exactly does the G mean?

I use a hardware firewall, so that's defenetly not a problem. I have a Dell Axim which also uses Active Sync, and I thought that might be causing problems, so I installed it on another PC on my network, and tried it on there, and the same happened, i.e. nothing.

G for GPRS connection.

As you're "always on" you want to see this symbol. Don't forget you only pay for what you download so it's just telling you you've got a connection.

What version of Activsync are you using?

Hopefully you have the numbers the wrong way round there

and actually have 3.7.1 rather than 3.1.7

With the Axim unplugged what happens when you connect the phone to the PC?

Just a thought - it could be trying to synch OTA.

Have you checked Programs-ActiveSync on the SPV.

Load Activesync prog and goto Menu-Options-PC settings.

You should have 'Auto start sync' activated and 'Include PC sync remote de-activated'.

Under PC settings, i have the following:

1

'USB

0

No partnership created.

This doesnt seem right to me, seems like there are some labels missing for these values. They're all editable by the way. I tried changing the 0 to a 1 (to enable something I presume) and pressed "Done" but i got a message saying "The settings could not be saved."

It sounds like its got a bit screwed up :?

I would do hard reset. It's advisable to do one anyway to clear out the phone from the previous owner.

according to those instructions, you need active sync to work. (i clicked the URL on the message you sent)

there is some other way of doing a hard reset which I read about, though when i held down 3 on the bootloader screen, i got the 'canary screen' straight away. what am i doing wrong?

No you don't need activesync to do a hard reset.

Sometimes people keep an SD card inserted to slow the bootup which might help.

- Press voice and power botton together.

- When phone starts booting up - release them.

- You will see 'Card found' message - ignore it and don't press anything.

- You will then see 'Press any key'. At this point PRESS and HOLD the action key (centre joypad button). You should enter the bootloader menu.

- Erase IPSM

- When completed press and hold power button for approx 10 seconds to boot up.

- The phone will take MUCH longer to bootup first time - it's normal.

aha! the other method mentioned nothing of the centre joypad button step, and obviously didn't work either. its all gone ok so far, i'm just waiting for it to start up. thankyou so much for your help! now let's see if this has solved any more of my problems...

still waiting for a message from orange to application unlock the phone, but nothing yet!

just a thought.. if you have hard reset your phone you will need to do the application unlock process again.

THANK THE LORD, AND THANK MARTIN! Just put it in its cradle, and it's synchonising like it's never synchronised before.

Now to see if the other stuff works....
