Guest ebswift Posted July 3, 2004 Report Posted July 3, 2004 Hello All, I recently released WordNetCE-SP for Smartphone 2003 as a result of requests to port my earlier released WordNetCE for Pocket PC to the Smartphone platform. WordNetCE-SP is a very comprehensive dictionary/thesaurus with advanced word linking and partial word search, plus more. It is entirely based on Princeton's WordNet 2.0 database and it attempts to recreate the desktop version of WordNet 2.0 in Smartphone format. I think I have created a release that users already familiar with the desktop version will be comfortable with, and new users should be able to work out without having to read a handbook. It is the initial release, so please forward any suggestions or bug reports to me using the email link (web form) on my website. Download, find more info : http://www.ebswift.com.WordNetCE-SP.gif

Guest ebswift Posted July 7, 2004 Report Posted July 7, 2004 Does this work on smartphone 2002? No, it doesn't.
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted July 11, 2004 Report Posted July 11, 2004 Is this a normal dictionary with normal English language words? I fear because I used that other Dream thing dictionary which wasn't an English Language dictionary.

Then you can decide whether you want to go to the trouble of installing it.
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 Wow, so the whole package is about 12.5MB?? Is that right?
Guest ebswift Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 Wow, so the whole package is about 12.5MB?? Is that right? Actually, the whole installation is about 35MB unpackaged. That's for over 140,000 words in a fully linked lexicon. One day I'll look at compressing the database, but working full time as well as being the only programmer/designer/webmaster on the whole project (as well as having several other projects) only allows me to do a bit at a time. There are many other smaller free dictionaries, however it is up to you to decide which best suits your own purposes. Going with the WordNet database in its native form allows me to make rapid updates when Princeton makes new releases. And it is an excellent database I might add.
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 So installed, it'll be about 35MB!!!!? I've got a 64MB SD Card, I've got about 20MB free, and on hard drive I have 20MB free. I don't think I can install! I don't really need a dictionary, but I just like new things on my phone! Where can I get a smaller dictionary? Thanks for your help ebswift :D
Guest tzechow_7786 Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 GOOD JOB~ although it's quite huge size.... it's still helpful ~ please download and try it, i believe tht this is better than the Lexxxxxary which is highly cost. btw, thx~
Guest stevo_knuckles Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 Just installed this on my phone. It's always handy to have something like a dictionary on it and this will prove very handy for me. Good instructions on how to install on your site made it a breeze to get working on the phone. Thaks very much for a useful app.
Guest bongbong Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 Sir cant you makt it work with Smartphone 2002? A lot of people are still using that O.S
Guest Osiris Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 looks like a toasty app, but would be handy if it twas in 2002 smartphone software, not just 2003. Hope you can get around to making it so, one day.
Guest ebswift Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 (edited) looks like a toasty app, but would be handy if it twas in 2002 smartphone software, not just 2003. Hope you can get around to making it so, one day. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Unfortunately I can't make a 2002 port anytime in the near future. The reason is that all my code base is in .Net, and at the moment (and I think for always) there is no support for the .Net Compact Framework on Smartphone 2002. As they say, never say never; I'll just keep thinking about it. Anyway, I mainly replied to the thread to let you all know that I released WordNetCE-SP 2.0 with some new fancy features. New in 2.0 are:* colour-coded, formatted search results * advanced searches - wildcard, regular expression, anagram, scrabble, sounds like * bug fixes - there was a nasty bug preventing some word relationship searches, there was a problem with morphing (where 'miles' was not morphed to 'mile'), and full WordNet 2.0 relations weren't implemented - only the v1.6 relationsDownload from ebswift.com and enjoy. Don't forget to give me some feedback, maybe drop a note in my forum on my site. Edited February 8, 2005 by ebswift
