Guest scottyucl Posted July 5, 2004 Report Posted July 5, 2004 Does anyone know how to get the sound working on the picodrive? I have it installed on my SPV E200 and it plays well but has no sound. If it doesn't have sound does anyone know of any megadrive emulators that work on my phone that does have sound. Scott
Guest Stomski Posted July 5, 2004 Report Posted July 5, 2004 No sound. Emulation of the MegaDrive sound hardware is not efficient enough to run at any decent speed on the current generation of SmartPhone hardware. For future reference, there's a forum especially for gamesforsmartphone products, which include picodrive. Find it here.
Guest maxh2003 Posted July 5, 2004 Report Posted July 5, 2004 Thx Stomski. I should add that Dave - the author of all the important bits of PicoDrive - does hope to add some kind of sound support in the future, and if-and-when it appears in his PocketPC version, I'll (try to) port it to Smartphone. But as Stomski says, I would expect this to cause the emulation speed to *plummet* so don't expect it: a) soon, or :D to be useable in practice
Guest phonesmarts Posted July 6, 2004 Report Posted July 6, 2004 maxh2003, any updates on the PicoDrive? like added rom compatibility?
Guest maxh2003 Posted July 6, 2004 Report Posted July 6, 2004 Hi phonesmarts There's a new version of PicoDrive for Smartphone on its way, based on the 0.024 source code available from www.finalburn.com - I have it up-and-running already but need to tweak a few more bits of code and remove a bunch of debug stuff before it's fit for release. The new release will also feature stomski's file requester, which is working pretty nicely in my latest test build. But, and it is a bit of a "but", version 0.024 does break at least a few existing games. Obviously I can't name them but suffice it to say that they would include one or two of the most obvious (and popular) MegaDrive games. On the other hand, at least two games now show improvements. NONE of the games on the not-working list at my website appear to work; I *have* tried [some of] them out. Given that compatibility on this version seems *lower* than the previous version, you guys might all like to save your old versions when the new one comes out, just in case the new one doesn't play your favourite game... For what it's worth, the PocketPC version shows these problems too, so it's not a defect in the porting process (and thank God; I would hate to have to start again on the porting!) There are also the most basic first bits of code to handle sound, now present in version 0.024. Dave has left it commented-out in his source code; I uncommented it to see how my smartphone would behave, and the result is: 1) my phone now makes some clicking noises that can't be identified, and 2) the frame rate has been halved. So the next version will still have the "sound" disabled. If there's interest, I might make the version with sound available, just so people can convince themselves that it's not worth using (for the time being, at least...) Expect the next version some time between now and Friday, unless I find some horrible bug or other. Max

Max im enjoying this pico drive thing to the max. i wish i could play nba live but its cool the way it is. i wish the snes emulator could play as well. sacrificing the sound for playability is definately an option emulator programmers should look at in the future.
Guest cumhuronat Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 I know it sounds a dump question, but is there any exit key for picodrive? I tried everything but non worked
