Guest madhatter2k Posted July 5, 2004 Report Posted July 5, 2004 Well, finally after all the problems I had, which were solved by the very kind people here, my original SPV works as a mobile. Now i'm looking to mess around with it somewhat, where I met my first hurdle. How the hell do you install stuff? I'm still googling, but haven't come across anything substantial yet. I presume this is a very simple task. I fear I might be missing something vital though, there is no form of 'Windows Explorer' style program on the mobile itself, which I thought might be needed to run programs that were simply copied onto the phone (obviously, Windows CE or Windows Mobile programs, not 32bit executables) Am I missing this? I've followed the exact instructions for application unlocking this phone, though i didn't actually receive any message from orange saying that it had, and i tried installing some sort of explorer interface (which was an exe installer, so i managed to do that ok) but then the phone said that i did not have sufficient permissions to install it, which i'm guessing means that the application unlock wasn't successfull. hope someone can help, and thanks in advance.
Guest zeta101 Posted July 5, 2004 Report Posted July 5, 2004 your phone hasnt unlocked properly from the looks of it. Does your phone account have GPRS enabled? do u have a G at the top of the screen in a box (this shows its enabled). Before you eneter the details and submit on the site open internet explorer on your phone and go to any old web site, this just makes sure the gprs connection is open and working. When you click on submit on your computer you should go to another webpage saying you will getthe update on your phone shortly, if you dont then you will need to temporarily disable your firewall for a coupla seconds (just enough time to click on submit and to get to the next page). When you are unlocked, your phone will show a message saying so. after this, you can install the explorer program you have...you can also explore your phones directories from your pc when you have it connected in the cradle (select explore from the active sync prog). Basically, you can put your stuff in ipsm, thats your storage on the phone. The windows dir, is part of the ROM, you cant really change stuff here cos the files are either protected, and everyting gets rewritten when you reset in the windows directory on the phone. Most things are installed using .cab files. For this i suggest you get smartrun(do a search on modaco for it). It is a pc app, and it will add an option to right clicks for cabs, just right click on the cab file and click to option to send to smartphone, then follow the options on your phone. Some stuff is .exes like you said, and u just copy them to your phone, you can put them ipsm somewhere, and then make a shortcut in the startmenu if you want for easy access. good luck!
