Can someone tell me why the software makers ask a lot of money for the most stupid and simple programms ? I don't understand

Cos some people will pay for it!

Just because most of us can se it's rubbish doesn't mean they cant sell it to some poor fools

Just to help you get the facts right the actual software

authors do not make much money at all.

The Author uses a publisher to promote the app and then use

places like Handango to sell the app.

Now handango get a large percentage from the initial sale and then

the publisher takes the rest. They then give the Author a percentage of the percentage they get.

In the end the Author loses out in a lot of cases.

I banned you once as your first post was advocating software piracy. Now you have a new name, the same with a "." at the end.

Software developers can charge whatever they want. If the program is worth it...people will pay a price to have it. You dont have to buy it. But it seems you intend to steal it at times. What is worse? Overcharging for software or stealing it.

This site supports software/hardware developers and all of their efforts. We discourage any talk, requests, bragging, or hinting about any type of piracy. Continue along these lines an you will be banned again.

Enjoy the forums! :D

To your point on this thread...

I dont understand many of the programs comming out on handango. Suntan timers, cheap simple databases, crappy calculators for $5.99 each.

I dont know why the werent offered as freeware in the firstplace as they seem like fledgling attempts by new developers. Look at the low sales of these items and you'll see that no one is buying them...including me.

MSMobiles has a little blurb on his site about this as well and I (shutter to think) agree with him.

There is alot of crap out there...but they are allowed to sell it for whatever they wish. And I and you are free to ignore them.

But just because you dont agree with the price doesnt mean you can steal them. :D

Fair enough.

But may be it is also fair to say that the most smartphone site's wich pretend to be independent are not. So may be it's good to state at the top of this site that is is sponsored by.......................... and that it is a forum where you can say anything till....................

Since I was banned from modaco I am now also banned from coolsmartphone and yoursmartphoneadvice.

To help you get your facts right, this site is not sponsored

and is privately owned.

We have close assosiations with many software and hardware developers and manufacturers and believe in working with them but we are not sponsored by them.

But we have and always will be independant.

how do you define an independent site?

I know for a fact that msmobilenews.com is independent, as it its not funded by orange, microsoft or anyone else, its mine and brodys money in that. Orange have in the past given us phones to give away and phones to review but thats part of oranges comunity support, not sponsorship and the companies that do sponsor us they asked and we like there products so they get to give us money or free stuff for the site.

and as awarner said, modaco is independent and if you don't like the rules set up your own

later

Sales volumes are also low because there really aren't all that many smartphones out there, globally speaking. This makes pricing your apps even harder, especially if you need to feed your family off the earnings.

Low numbers of phones also mean no big companies getting involved to write software. That's what creates the hole in the market which some bedroom-developers seek to fill. If, for instance, Adobe, Macromedia and Microsoft (!) were committed to releasing new and innovative Smartphone products, there would be many fewer windows of opportunity for fifth-rate software sales.

We should maybe be more thankful for the few killer freeware apps there are, like the 100% indispensible BetaPlayer. See, it could be worse...

There is a TON of great freeware, I agree.

I would even pay for BetaPlayer. But expectations go up when you start to charge for programs.

Equally there is alot of great buy-ware and shareware. But not as much or as diverse as I would like.

I believe there are many many Smartphones out there. Hundreds of thousands. (dont quote me). So the opportunity IS there to make money. But the Smartphone user is smarter than the average cellphone user and would be a bit more reluctant to buy crappy programs.

I, personally have no problem paying for good & useful & fun software. I have invested alot into smartphone software already. Over $100 I would guess.

I'll never understand why people get really cheap when buying quality software for their $300+ phones, many times resorting to stealing it.

Take our Midnight & Muff's "Eclipse: First Wave", for example. A quality game for the smartphone. Time and Effort was taken into writing/designing it. Over 1900 copies downloaded on Handango alone. At $12.99 that's almost $20,000 dollars if everyone bought it. Now I don't know their finances, but I would guess that after you take away fees and taxes, etc....that's still a nice chunk of change.

SmartphoneNotes sold 2-1/2 times more than that on Handango and PowerCalendar sold about 50% more at double the price.

There is money to be made for quality apps. You probably wont be rich off of one app...but you can't rest on your laurels can you???

So I get on my soapbox and scream....

"MAKE US MORE QUALITY APPLICATIONS AND GAMES!!! I HAVE MONEY TO SPEND! I'LL PAY FOR THEM!!!!!! JUST MAKE IT WORTH IT!!!" :D

(and damn it get someone to do your layout, graphics & UI! These ugly programs out there get me mad!
