My MPx200 w/ WM2003 always hard resets after turning it off

I only have this problem with the WM2003 ROM. Every time I turn my phone off and then on again, all the settings are lost, basically hard resetting the phone every time. The phone takes a couple of minutes to start (and sometimes freezes on the beginning screen). I followed the directions, I first flashed with the full 2003 ROM, and then flashed with the language updater, and then hard reset the phone. Even when I tried only with the full 2003 German ROM, it still does this. I also tried the radio stack update and I still have the problem. Does anyone else have this problem or have any suggestions or solutions? Thanks

Not seen this one reported before :?

Is it actually doing a hard reset or just appears to be?

Also have you actually done a proper Hard Reset since

installing the rom?

I am having the same problem also. In addition to what Toad has described my phone displays unkown sim status (error 0) screen upon startup. If I click the home screen this disappears and the phone sim works just fine. I have tried reflashing it three times but still get a hard reset every time I turn the phone off then on. This is pretty anoying. Does anyone else have this issue?

Well... it's not exactly doing the same thing as when you hold the blue action button down and turning it on. It doesn't show that progress bar on the bottom. However, it usually takes longer to start or gets frozen on one of the beginning screens. Also, all of the stuff and settings that I put on the phone get erased. Yes, I have done a proper hard reset after installing the ROM.

Sometimes mine shows a SIM error (not error 0) when I start the phone up also. When I do press Done, it still won't load though, and I have to restart the phone to get rid of the error. I only get that error maybe one out of twenty times though. Usually I don't get the SIM error and it starts.

I don't think this problem has anything to do with the SIM though. I tried taking my SIM out and then re-flashing, hard resetting, and then turning my phone off and on a couple of times. The phone still takes a really long time to start or gets stuck at one of the beginning screens.

Ok another idea that can cuse this sort of problem is the sim

card contacts on the phone. Remove the card and carefully

clean the contacts, also make sure the card is seated correctly ie the black tabs are not broken.

I tried that also. Doesn't seem to help. I realized that I am now having problems with the older 2002 ROM's. I did not have any problems before I tried using the WM2003 ROM. I'm thinking the only solution is now to send this back to Motorola. I don't know what's wrong with it. The only thing I could possibly think of is that there's something wrong with the flash ROM in the phone. I've also tried removing the battery from it overnight and used 2 different computers with 2 different USB cables to flash it, but I'm still having problems with the phone with any ROM I flash it with. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

There could be a chance that the backup battery has failed :?

Toad, try this...

First, you are going to have to reinstall the updates. I noticed you said that you installed the ROM, installed the language pack,THEN did a hard reset.

This time install WM2K3 and do a hard reset. Next, power off the phone and install the language pack. Again do a hard reset. If you plan on installing the radio stack, power the phone off and install...then do another hard reset.

These steps should alleviate the problems that you and others have been experiencing. This ROM and its updates need to be installed and hard reset individually.

After that, pay attention to your battery life, if it seems like standby time has diminished, power off your phone and fully charge it. Once fully charged, do a hard reset.

Please Note: After each install, let the hard reset takes its course. The phone can take up to 8 minutes before it boots up! So be patient! If you press any keys during this time you can corrupt the install!

Once your homescreen pops up you're all set!

Some of the features aren't working with this ROM, but if installed properly, it is pretty stable.

Now you should be good to go!

Yep I posted about doing a Hard Reset with a fulll battery

to increase battery life in another post. A few other members

have now tried this and confirms it work.

It looks like after a Hard Reset the phone takes the battery

level at the time as a referance point and alters it's life accordingly.

I tried that already. I also tried with only the ROM. I think I'm going to have to send this back to Motorola for warranty now.

Er, you ARE aware that you invalidated your warranty by installing another ROM on it, aren't you? You might just get it sent straight back you know...

Yes, I'm fully aware. I don't think they care though. I've heard of other people who have sent their flashed ones back under warranty, and Motorola doesn't seem to care if it was flashed or not.
