Guest Paul [MVP] Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 I've just had to hard reset my phone AGAIN (long developer-related story), and it set me thinking 'Do other people go through the same process as me?'... So here's my hard reset routine (ish), feel free to post yours below! :D P - Hard reset phone using bootloader menu - Let phone boot normally, and after initialisation, unlock via the Orange site - Set keypress timeout to 1/2 second, turn off key tones, disable homescreen timeout, set owner information - Setup and sync with Exchange server to restore contacts, calendar and mail - Browse to CustomCABbage.co.uk and install screenfix and speed tweaks - Install and register homescreen of choice (Midnight's MSN at the moment!) (MoDaCo Plus) - Install Shell Config to persist GPRS connection - Switch JPEG resolution in Camera to SuperFine - Install and register SurrealStart (it rocks!) (MoDaCo Plus) - Install and register Binary's Task Manager - Install and register Binary's Smart Explorer - Install Agile Messenger - Install ClearVue Viewers - Install Pocket Streets - Install and Register Power Tasks - Install and Register Power Calendar - Install SmartphoneNotes - Install and Register SmartFilter - Install and Activate Traffic Counter - Install Tube - Install Vito Voicedialler - Install Done in 50 Seconds - Install and Register Eclipse - Install JetPack Jim (MoDaCo Plus) - Install Pocket MiniGolf - Install Toki Tori - Install BlueTooth Toggler - Install NotBad Of course, the actual software install varies, but this is what tickles my fancy at the moment ;-)
Guest ustguitarista Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 hmm.. install smart explorer, then sprite restore everything. :D thenb install fonts again, lextionary then pocket music. thats all
Guest midnight Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 hard reset then run my own cab which installs everything in one go :D
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 OK OK, so i'm clearly a bit backward in this respect ;-) P
Guest Rob.P Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 Sprite backup, in a phrase, the dogs knackers :D
Guest PritenC Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 Hard Reset then run my own cab which installs everything in one go :D Is my understanding right where you have cab files in one big cab file? If this is so, I've been wanting to do this for a while now, I just don't know how to execute the cab file one the phone automatically. Any help?
Guest Disco Stu Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 Sprite backup, in a phrase, the dogs knackers :D Word Up ! :D
Guest Skilty Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 How do you do a sprite back up then? seems like i could be saving myself a lot of time......?
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 Mine's fairly similar where I put all my photos and everything backed up (Jawbreaker highscores etc.) from PC to SPV3, and then I set about re-installing everything and tweaking everything to perfection. I think I've done about 3 hard resets since 2 Feb '04. When I got my SPV3. :D
Guest Disco Stu Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 How do you do a sprite back up then? seems like i could be saving myself a lot of time......? Get the software from here : http://www.spritesoftware.com/home.html You have installations on both the PC & phone. Run it on the phone. Save to PC or storage card. Takes 5 minutes max.

If this is so, I've been wanting to do this for a while now, I just don't know how to execute the cab file one the phone automatically. Any help? Not quite, i have a PC installer that installs multiple cabs, one after the other, the good thing with this is its easy to add more and more cabs :D
Guest ivor biggun Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 Hard reset then simply load my All-Backup file and all is back to normal! Didn't even cost me anything as i managed to blag myself in as a beta tester :D
Guest alang Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 I used to have Bluetooth toggler on my system but due to an unfortunate partition magic error (I forgot to back-up my files) I've lost it and can't find it anywhere in the forum. Please help
Guest xavierjohn22 Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Hard REset! then restore through Sprite backup! Viola!
Guest BrAGoL Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 i've a qtek rom... so after every hard reset, do the autorun trick, install smart explorer then sprite... taa daa!!! :D
Guest Crispy Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I've used two different methods, both quite efftective. The first one is making a "huge" cab file. Although this is very handy when installing, it's a real pain to maintain! ... The second method I use is making a command line batch script for modaco smartrun. This is both fast and easy to maintain :D
Guest Patrick.Kraaijeveld Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 "]I've just had to http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?p=97945#97945>Hard Reset - Switch JPEG resolution in Camera to SuperFine What resolution is Superfine? 480x640? Or better?
Guest nedge2k Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 -Hardreset -Install Software that requires registering -Install my .cab which restores all personal settings, registers software, installs freeware apps (quickreset is a must), does alot of tweaking etc. Keeps a hardreset nice and easy :D
Guest kevlar Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Seems to me we need a tutorial on how best to do this. I mean for example making a "huge" cab file........how? and making a command line batch script for modaco smartrun.......eh, what's this about? I am sure 3/4 of the people posting here are programmers!!. I certainly am not, half the posts here mean nothing to me!. So if someone could kindly post an idiots guide to backing/restoring I'd be very grateful! cheers Kevlar
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Same resolution, but less JPEG compression... P What resolution is Superfine? 480x640? Or better?
Guest sparkisgti Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 hard reset and then install sprite.. and then restore using sprite :D
Guest mr Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Persistent GPRS burns through your battery and screws up your MMS reception! Otherwise I have almost exactly the same list of activities.
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Also, all my applications (.cab) are backed up on my PC so I just transfer them over to my phone.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I was thinking about hard resetting mine recently seeing as its currently in a bit of a state. The range of software i install varies on what i come across when reinstalling, for some reason my catelogue of apps spans 3 or 4 different folders!
Guest beersoft Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 when i hard reset, my "system" is copy all the clutter onto the pc hardreset OTA unlock put my 8meg sdcard in which has a nice autorun with all the apps that i need installing on my phone (phonemenory) register everything (eclipse, surrealstart etc...) install some customcabbage fun turn off all the stupid defaults (key tones, timeout etc..) re - pair BT with the pc point pocketie at 192.168.0.254/local/installmyapps and install the stuff that needs to be on the propper sd card stick a random homescreen on and enjoy nippy fast phone i should make a cab that sets the owner info and all the other tweaked settings, but im lazy :D later Owen
