I've had to stop using my orange email account because of regular (like almost daily) breakdowns, and a multitude of virus files in my inbox every day. I think its the worst email server I have ever used.

When i originally started using it, it was great, but it kinda went downhill after France Telecom coming in charge of things. All the crap in there is taken care of by Spam Arrest, so that isn't a problem. I like my email address, and do not want to change it - have not had any problems with it not working in a long time, until today.

smtp server has to be your isp's smtp address...

why?

i am sure i used to send messages from accounts other than my isps...

Other ISPs are tightening up on people using other SMTP servers through their internet connections - it's a spam thing.

so just change your account settings, so for you orange account instead of smtp.orange.net put your isps smtp server, i.e. for freeserve put smtp.orange.net

I think you mean smtp.freeserve.net (which is wanadoo now anyway...) :P

They should also disallow e-mails to pass through that have from addresses different to the isp domain, that would kill a hell of a lot of email. Only problem with that is sending email using a domain that doesnt have smtp services (eg monolithix.org)

Errm. No; I use BT ADSL and my settings are:

Incoming: pop.orange.net

Outgoing: smtp.orange.net

You must goto more settings / outgoing server and tick the box entitled "my outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and make sure that the radio button "use the same settings as my incoming server" is ticked.

Mono,

You are getting confused with the setings on the phone; you must use orange.net to send emails no matter what your ISP SMTP server is.......

yes, i meant smtp.freeserve.com (d'oh!)

i haven't always had luck with authentication, so gave up on it and switched it to freeserve.

And now spam arrest seems to be down - argh!

mcwarre: Sounds like Orange have pop before smtp enabled then :P

From experience though there is no way you can use another ISP's smtp server when not connected to their service (how can you sync with one pop3 server and send through another smtp? pop before smtp doesn't work then...).

Mono,

On your phone you have to use O's SMTP to send no matter what you receive pop is. For eg I can use the old freeserve (now wanadoo) to receive but must send emails from phone with wanadoo through Orange SMTP. (it sends first then receives).

On outlook I use orange to send then receive as it is (or was after all this malarky) my main email. The difference seems to be purely phone based access to email.....

Yus i know that, however the posts implied that we were talking about a problem with the PC-based Outlook... :P

I've had a problem sending mails through my replacement e200 since i got it 4 weeks ago. the settings that i'm using are correct as they worked on my original e200 since may. I currently seem to be going round in circles with 156 and 3 replacement handsets later the problem still exists. I have put my sim in to a nokia 7650 and 6600, used my settings in those phones and it sends and receives no problem. If i haven't any mails in my outbox it connects, finds and downloads from my pop3 mailbox without a problem, but when i have a mail to go it just hangs on the sending and receiving bit. I installed the new rom on my 2nd replacement but still no joy, this 3rd one came with the old rom and i still have a problem.

Any advice would be great on this.

Post your complete E200 settings then maybe someone could check it against their E200 :P

Which settings do you mean?

I can connect with GPRS for net surfing with IE on the phone, i can download mails from whichever pop3 mail box i own but i can't send mails through the smtp.orange.net server as it hangs on the sending and receiving bit. Both boxes are unticked under the outgoing server box in mail options as they should be. The issue is still not resolved with orange and i think they have had enough in trying to sort this out and i had one operator in 156 basically saying he didn't believe me that i had the correct settings setup on the phone and that is was impossible to have 3 replacement handsets that have the same fault. I'm off to the orange shop with all my phones and i'm going to show them and then get them to ring orange and verify that my settings are correct.
