WM 2003 no service "tick"

Hello all - I live in an area with spotty cell service and I've found that when my phone loses a signal, it begins to make a "tick" sound from the speaker. The sound only seems to occur when I go from an area of cell signal to an area without signal. I have the WM 2003 upgrade (also language update and GSM update) on my phone, however I noticed that my phone also did this with the "generic" firmware that's been floating around the internet for a while. My wife also has a non-flashed ATT branded Mpx200 and her phone does not have this noise. I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem and/or if there was some type of fix (registry or otherwise) that anyone knew of. Cheers.

i have that same tick problem as i did when i was running the generic 2002 moto rom. the original att rom the phone came with does not have that tick issue. i actually don't mind it too much but unfortunately there seems to be no fix for it.
