Guest orcinus Posted July 17, 2004 Report Posted July 17, 2004 I've been playing with GLYPHCACHE size for a while now and reached the following conclusion: SMALLER cache = MORE responsive UI The registry key i'm talking about is here: /HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/GDI/GLYPHCACHE/limit I've been running with "limit"="4096" and "1024" for the past day and everything involving text (and that'd mean all the menus, contacts, SMS messages, T9 contact retrieval from home screen etc.) seems much faster and more responsive. I'm not sure what the side effects are, but i'm guessing it's slower performance with large amounts of text (big web pages, long messages...). I wonder if that's the same key affected by the Speed Up Tweak cab (Midnight's?) - i tried installing that before this, but all i got was standard/lower performance. Orcinus
Guest orcinus Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Can anyone confirm (or deny) this? I'd like to know whether this was just a coincidence on my phone or a "real" change. Also, if there are any serious negative side effects to lowering the cache limit. Orcinus
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Mine was initally set for 8192 but changing the value did not do anything to my phone. Midnight's the registry expert so he's the one to explain in more detail what the values do.

Mine was 16384 after the Speed Up cab, so it seems it really DOES change that setting (it increases it to 2x). But, like i said, reducing it instead of increasing made things go faster in my case.
