mpx200 ROM question

I am expecting an MPX200 next week which I'm going to need to SIM unlock pretty quickly. I know I can do this from the imei-check website.

However, I see that in addition to the WM2003 ROM, there is an "updated" German 2002 ROM (v1.0.52.90) available. My question is:

1) If I flash the German 2002 ROM, will it SIM-unlock my phone?

2) If I flash the WM2003 ROM, will it SIM-unlock my phone?

3) Is there any way my phone could then revent to being SIM-locked at a future date?

I'm hoping not to have to shell out the £20 if I'll go through a process minutes later that would have SIM-unlocked it anyway.

My understanding is that once a phone is SIM Unlocked...it stays that way.
