Guest tigres013 Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Newbe, but a fast learn. I have spent countless hours looking for this fix, however I have come up with nothing short of the flight mode Temp. Fix... 2k3 upgrade, and my sim card is not found, however I can use the phone in all aspects with exceptions of accessing any sim contacts or sms messages. THE ERROR IS Fail to initial sim, possible Radior off or Sim Failure. The card is good, and works fine, in addition I went to a T-mobile store in US, and the new Tmobile cards with the T does the EXACT same thing. You just cannot access the sim information? What am I to do or fix here? I am very thankful for anyones help here!! tigres013 Michigan, USA
Guest coheed Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 I have the same problem with my phone. Im sure its an OS error. Does your signal Icon tell you that you have no signal sometimes, even though you do? Just wonderin if that has something to do with the sim error. P.s. what part of michigan you from? Im also from there :P
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Do other SIM cards work? Check the retaining tabs on the SIM card holder, if they are broken (common fault) that will give you your error.
Guest tigres013 Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Yes, the sim card has no connection issues, and works and tests perfectly in other phones. This has something to do with the information the phone is sending to the tower or vice versa. Works fine with the 02 OS. Funny thing is in an earlier post a guy was right. You can access the sim contacts ONLY 1 way, Put phone in Flight mode, turn off, turn on, and take off of filght mode. The phone goes into SEARCHING infinitely!! Then, and only then can you access your sim contacts, add, edit, and everything. Of course you have to soft reset to get to using your phone again. A real pain I tell you. Oh, and another thing.... Interesting... When you change anything with caller id, call waiting, etc, and the phone connects with the Network, all is well. When you restart phone, it looses all the settings, it did not do this with 02. Sorry for the long post. :P Thanks in advance for your reply's Tigres013 BIRMINGHAM!!!MI

Guest coheed Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 thats cool, i live in dearborn heights. Not too far... :P
Guest coheed Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Its nice to see some local people on here.
Guest tigres013 Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Agreed, I don't think the US takes up much of this board... Big time difference when replys from the Main Men who know there stuff!!! Tigres013 :P
Guest martin Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Just a guess here but it might have something to do with the contacts and SMS messages being on the SIM before the SP2003 upgrade. I would try putting the SIM in another model of phone and deleting all the existing contact and SMS's. Then put the blank SIM back in the smartphone and recreate the contacts. Worth a try :P Does the upgrade remove the existing contacts and SMS's from the phone (ie inbox and contact list). If not then you could also try a hard reset to clear these and see if that helps.
Guest tigres013 Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Martin, Thanks for the tip. For some answers to your questions... Yes, the upgrade wiped everything clean. And I am about to try the clean out contacts with another phone "Trick" One thought here...In the Sim Manager (under file manager) there are sim files, Not knowing what these do, maybe older files from 02 can fix this???? I am convinced that this has something to do with the OS, and or the comunication with T-Mobile network. Funny how everything else works when in flight mode, but as soon as the phone connects to t-mobile, I get that funky error :x Thanks again, and keep your thoughts comming, I am willing to try anything!!! Tigres013 I stop at nothing to conquer
Guest martin Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Yeah, very strange. When you turn the off or select flight mode the phone will do a GSM detach from the network. After a detach the network will not attempt to communicate with the phone (ie no SMS, or paging for incoming calls etc). It could be that T-mobile is trying to update the SIM when you are attached. I was hoping that an intitial SIM problem was the cause of later errors but if everything is deleted off the SIM (blank SIM) then it would at least eliminate that possibility. If it was the OS the other people would have similar problems so, as you say, it might be an issue with this particular OS and T-mobile. Hmmm :?
Guest tigres013 Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 No go on the clean wipe out of the sim. Cleaned it out completely, and still no go... Weird though, added new contact on sim, could not verify it worked, but put it in my nokia, and whola!!! it is there. Just cannot see it on the MPX200. And one more thing, when I cleaned it out, the phone said (on bootup) unknown sim status, just pressed done 2 times and at the home screen... so strange with this, I guess I will never be able to use my sim card and save my network settings after power recycle I.E. blocking caller ID. Tigres013 :x
Guest martin Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Just wondered - Did you hard reset after the upgrade ?
Guest tigres013 Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Even though a newbe :P I hard reset after all functions of the upgrade, and did NOT even so much as touch a button... FYI, I went back to 02 os, and then tryed the upgrade again. Worked fine on 02, and same results on 03.... HMMMMMMMMM. ArgHHHHHHHH. ???? Tigres013 and thanks a ton for your corispondance!!! Keep it coming
Guest HMILLER2 Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Sometimes you all just seem to be lost in space. You got a 99.9 % perfect Rom upgrade for free. I have seem the same error come and go. It does nothing to the phone in the way of any damage. For what ever reason it just is that way for now. I have had a few starts without the error but that was before I did the GSM patch and when it did. It showed up in both German and English. Has no one out their seems to be talking about how much better the phone works and looks since they installed the New Rom for 2003. Be Happy Life Is Too Short. Besides their a good chance that if you could have bought it you would still be having the same problem. So 2 extra clicks to say done and move on. I have rolled over my other 2 phones now and have had no trouble with putting back the software and even adding new versions for the 2003. Think about how hard you are picking apart the GREAT SERVICE THAT WAS GIVEN TO ALL OF US. THIS SITE IS STILL ONE OF THE BEST FOR SUPPORT AND INFO DON'T GO DOWN HILL JUST TO BE PICKY. !!!! THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE HELP AND INFO I GET HERE EACH WEEK AND TRY TO KEEP YOU EYE ON THE BALL> THE PHONES ARE GETTING BETTER AND SO IS THE SOFTWARE YOU JUST CAN NOT HAVE IT ALL OVERNITE. Oh and don't forgeat we over here in the US seem to have to wait an extra 6 months before we can get moving with the products you are using now. Be Happy and Run a Back Up Program like Sprite. Thanks To ALL Herb Miller PS Where was that note to change out the start up cartoon ? Take Care
Guest tigres013 Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Thanks for the friendly post, don't think you were successful in answering the question, but non the less your directness is somewhat confusing. This is indeed a forum for posting such problems, information, etc, so be that as it may, you are saying in your post --leave well enough alone, and be happy...??? :P Well, not arguing at all of the free upgrade, and its (as you call it 99% accuracy) you are the one who is complaining. All we all are doing here (or most of us) is communicating and discovering better means of perfection. I love my upgrade, as I am sure many do, but be that nothing is perfect I am sure that leaving problems, glitches, or whatever out of this forum gives the MIGHTY developers little insight as to where to look next time. I give all the respect to the makers of these fine additions that make my life and the lives of others easier to manage, and besides it is fun to explore!!! All I have to say is Lighten up, and please do enjoy I love this forum!!! Tigres013 :D
Guest amiraj Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 Tigres013 , Did you find any solution to your SPV problem? I brought SPV Classic 3 months ago. I upgraded it to ver 1.6 ROM during unlock to use with T-Mobile USA. It worked fine for few days and started giving trouble. Some time it says "NO Service" . Hard Reset worked very few times. Some times "SIM is Invalid" Please let me know if you find any solution. Thanks
