C500 to shoot AVI & MP4/H.263 Videos!

According to the C500 manual, which can be seen here thanks to robotmonster, the C500 can shoot AVI videos (like the E200) as well as MMS videos in MP4 and H.263 formats 8)

Assuming it's true, (Orange/HTC/MS have a habit of ommitting certain features mentioned in the manual  ) then it really is good news :P

I don't know any other "Smartphones" that will record in all these formats :?: 8)

BTW - I'm pretty sure that H.263 is the technical term for 3GP :D

BRING IT ON 8)

other cool stuff seems to be built in file manager, space maker, task manager and caller id applications, all stuff we should have expected in the first generation spv's but never happened, so thats good to see :P

H.263 is indeed the 3GP format!

The 'Send' option in this file explorer does not seem to offer Bluetooth sending and receiving unfortunately but it is still good to see it's inclusion

Solitaire has had a face-lift in Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition by the looks of it too!

Finally how would you like a 'Favourites' playlist in Windows Media Player? Well its here! This is GREAT news and something i'm really looking forward to!

A favourites playlist in Windows Media Player! Sounds good to me! :P

do we know when the C500 is going to be in the shops and how much it's going to cost?

The word is, it will hopefully be round about August 6th, (could easily be delayed though) and will probably initially be about £100.00 with contract (although I'd expect that to fall quite quickly)

The Link and other online shops will no doubt stock it at far discounted rate :P I can't wait!

That’s horrible news :P!! My Girlfriends got the E100 and due for an upgrade in August...

So she will once again have a better phone than me!!

errr, not strictly true m8 :P

3GP can wrap two different video and audio formats into a 3GP file (currently either MP4 or h.263), but h.263 is its own format. it was developed for video streaming, is much less complex than mpeg, but requires less overhead.

I think I might have been swayed to buy the C500 now

Everything you hear about it is great, it just seems to keep getting better :P

Woops! Must have been a Google search gone wrong!

I've been waiting forever for this. If they can do this with the C500, they surely can do this with the E200 / Xphone / Voyager-series. Its probably just a matter of software... so I hope they wont delay the upgrades for the Voyager that include this functionality.

just checking out the manual for this and there was not much mention of new Bluetooth profile like PAN

also suggestion was that activesyink was still the sync method for the phone i was hoping it would use the Bluetooth SYNC profile and obex push pull

did some one say that widcomm was whipping up the driver for this ?

Does anyone know the resolution and frame rate for the video capture?

I just KNOW I am gonna get flamed for this... But take your time to consider what I am about to say carefully folks...

If there haven't been changes made to the Bluetooth sending options, then the C500 is a waste of space (well that's not entirely true of course - but it DOES have a HUGE failing therefore).

You see, having gone back to a Nokia (6230), which is a DUMBphone compared to SOME of the features of the E200/C500 Smartphone mold, it does however, do I even dare say it, do a good many things, that the E200/Smartphone model is YEARS behind still...

(And rememberr folks, I'm pro-smartphone, and got my E200 after being sick of the way Nokia was doing some things).

Bluetooth on my 6230... Well, I can send just about ANYTHING to or from the phone using it.

Record a video... - BT striaght to my g/f... Picture just as easy...

Voice memo... a doddle... Calendar, business card, note... u name it, a doddle...

If the devices have been paired, you don;t even need BT ON on the receiving device, it will activate and turn off as needed.

Headset...? No problem - proper headset profile... I can listen to my music or watch pron vids in private using my BT headset that connects like a dream (oh, and voice dial simply too).

And notes... Well that's a clincher... Just this very second my g/f has sent me a text note so easily. It's saved us a fortune in text messaging when we argue *lol*. But seriously, my laptop here is upstairs, so if I want anything I just text note her via BT in seconds... It's a godsend.

And today, after syncing my XDA2 PPC, my E200 (admittedly easier than the Nokia offering), I then did a BT full sync of my 6230.

I then realised that I had missed an appointment out of Outlook, so I entered it into Outlook, saved as a vCalendar, and just BT'd it striaght to my 6230 and it was in as quick as that.

I guess what I am saying folks, is that the Smartphone model is miles more advanced than Nokia etc.

But with some glaring and huge ommisions that REALLY make a difference, once you are used to them and take them for granted.

It's easy to say "I don;t need that" if you have never tried it.

But not so once you are used to it.

Just like me and my E200 - easy for me to say I didn;t need a Smartphone, until I actually tried it.

So if the C500 is little or no different to the E200 in terms of its Bluetooth, then I can's say it any clearer than this... It won;t be able to displace my 6230 for features I really depend on now, and that's saying something when you consider my 6230 is a DUMBphone...

End rant mode *lol*

I couldn't agree more shadamehr :P

I love my E200, but SPV's have been missing vital functions since day one (November 2002) and if I'm honest, I can't see the C500 being all that much different :?

I'll still be getting one, as soon as I can get my mitts on one, but I can't help thinking that I'll still be asking questions like:-

"Why can't it do voice dialling :?: "

"Why doesn't it display an alarm icon when the alarm is set :?: "

"Why do I have to turn infrared on, to be able to receive a file by bluetooth :? :?: "

"Why doesn't Windows Media Player resume music playback after I've finished my call :?: "

"Why is there still no built in GPRS counter :?: "

"Why doesn't the supplied headset end a call when I press the button :?: "

Etc, etc. etc

Oh, and I nearly forgot:- "When are Orange gonna release a C500 ROM upgrade :?: "

Couldnt agree more. This C500 is just another huge can of worms waiting to be opened. Personally, im wating for the MPx...might be swayed on the MPx 220 also

you've got the right idea man, and this applies to all unreleased phones.

¿What about the radio?... i thought this phone had the radio feature (wich make it more dessireble) but i didnt find anything about it in the manual from the FCC... I wonder if that feature is missing in the manual or is just it will be not present in the production model.

there is no radio, it was misinformation from the very start (presumably someone got confused with the mention of the gsm radio stack)

No FM radio, that was a mistake in the original spec...

Thanks Midnight and Monolith, big shame. Thats another point for the NOKIA 6230, but C500 is still a hard contender (and way smart :P).
