Guest Helix Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 Not sure if anyone has asked this before, but have searched to check. I'm after a decent 4/5 Mega pixel Compact Digital Camera. Any info would be great - What digital camera you own? Its benefits/disadvantages. I'm considering the Sony DSC-T1, Casio EX-Z40, Olympus Stylus Digital 410 and the Canon Ixus 430 so far...
Guest ajb3000 Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 Well I'm about to buy the Canon Ixus 430, a mate has the Ixus 400 (practically identical) and it really is amazing, picture quality is inbelievable, espiecally considering the size of the camera.
Guest afroahmed Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 ok listen up, im extatic that i found the fuji finepix a340 on the net for an amazing £114 including postage and packaging!!!! from 7dayshop.com ... it is 4mp and seems like a good camera so i have ordered one. IM awaiting for it in the mail now.!!! i strongly recommend this camera from this website. In argos and index i think they are selling it for £170+
Guest nedge2k Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 I got a great little 4MP camera from Kwik Save for £50! Its the Medion MD41084, battery life isnt great but picture quality is and for £50 you cant really go wrong :P 16MB internal memory and takes SD cards up to 512MB.
Guest afroahmed Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 bet it hasnt got optical zoom though, well im happy with my deal and i know fujifilm is a reliable company
Guest nedge2k Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 No it has 4x digital zoom, a memo recorder and .avi recorder
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 I'm impressed with my Fuji Finpix f700 3x zoom and 6mp (I normally use 3mp with my shots) and with the price of XD cards coming down it's a very good buy. Examples of my macro shots in poor light without flash can be found in my sticky post on how to take your camera apart. Also if you are into photography like me you will like the adjustments you can make to simulate iso, shgutter speed and apperture settings.
Guest beersoft Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 i've got the kodak 5megapixel thingys with optical zoom, the model number escapes me but it was £200 from currys the quality is good, and its nice and quick taking photos and video, not to mention it uses a decent type of memory (mmc/sd) later Owen
Guest Dr Who Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 I bought a canon powershot A70 (only 3MP :-( ) but it is pretty fab. It is really nice it gives you access to all the settings, not just predetermined shot styles. It's not a really small camera and the flash is a bit fierce. You can get the 4MP A80 for about £180 now which is a really good price. The compact flash cards are reasonably cheap, too.
Guest Helix Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Theres just so many! I'm looking at the DSC-P100 now, it looks small and has some good reviews. Be carefull with that 7dayshop.com company they don't charge VAT and your postman might be asking for a nice fee when he arrives at the door. They're based in Guernsey i think so are able to get away with it.
Guest Lingerhosen Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Adding onto the previous reply, 7dayshop.com don't charge the VAT on cameras for some reason (though they did on a memory card I ordered, eh?) so when your camera arrives the postie will request a payment. I had to stump up £28 for my Casio Ex-M20, but it was still cheaper than other shops I looked at so it's not all bad. They definitely should be more explicit about this though... In summation, If the checkout figure mentions VAT then that's the full price. If it makes no mention of taxes, then keep some cash handy for Mr Postman! Consistency and transparency optional apparently... (Though to be fair to them, they are okay in other respects).

Its tiny (125.5 x 99 x 50.5 mm / 4.94 x 3.9 x 1.99 in.) and has an 3* INTERNAL optical zoom, how funky is that!? You can get it for about 150 GBP right now and its great for taking out and about when you don't want to carry around a big camera, it takes great photos andvideo as long as you memory card will hold (with sound :P). They do it in funky colours now named the DiMAGE XG too (Amazon link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...017527-9788417) It takes SD cards too :D I've posted a sample photo below of one of ukpauls' late night kebabs from StAlbans!
