Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 Microsoft have offered to set up a webcast or two (presumably depending on the success of the first :P) specifically for Smartphone developers here at MoDaCo. If you are interested PLEASE place your vote above. It will be scheduled for around September time and open to anyone that is interested. However we needto decide on an initial topic! From experience a "basic overview" to the .NET CF is rarely in depth enough. So what do people want? A few suggested topics so far are: .NET Compact Framework The Windows Mobile Developer Writing Secure Mobile Apps But its an open book, if we get some ideas down in the thread then i'll do a poll and we'll see what MS can provide. Anything .NET CF-ish you have an interest in, let us know!
Guest Brody Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 I'd be interested, i reckon the talking through of how to write a basic app would be a good start for budding developers but having said that the chat would have to provide a video link of the "resident expert's" VS.NET screen which would be tricky. How about a "Smartphone Specifics" chat that covers differences that are present when comparing Smartphone application development and PPC/other development? (My first thought is the lack of file explorer API for the Smartphone...)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 There shouldn't be a problem pumping an up to date screen to webcastee's.
Guest Will Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 very all for it, i'll get past 'hello world' oneday!! Will I think writing and deploying a simple app is probably the most use to introduction level people.. Maybe the series could start from there, and work up with registry, webservices etc.. into a complete little introduction!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Well we've had very limited response so this may have to be canned for the mean time. Please post if you're interersted!
Guest squall Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 id be interested. hard part is going from the very basics needed by some (me included) and the more complicated stuff.
Guest NeilC_MVP Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 How about a webcast on implementing the UI design guidelines for Smartphone in a real-world (but simple) application? This would help developers coming from other arens, particular desktop devs familiar with WinForms.
Guest Will Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 just a thought, we could 'decide' on a reasonable complex app, and in stages, build it over the webcast.. (and you can build along with us at home!).. ie start with the basics, then work up, to producing a 'useful' app, this would mean people who are 'advanced' could miss out, or view 'for entertainment purposes the first couple, then join in more on later ones..?? just an idea
Guest MECX Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 Sounds great to me, ive helped a couple of people to get started over netmeeting, its just very frustrating knowing where to start when you first load the compiler. I think starting basic is a very good idea, then cover all the windows forms that the smartphone supports (also giving details of what you cant do) showing basic things you can do moving up to more complicated things. 8)
Guest Colonel Trouble Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 I'd be very interested , being a complete no-notheing about programming , a sort of beginners guide would be fantastic ..
Guest MECX Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 i must say knowledge of at least C programming would be good or you will find yourself stuck very quickly, or get a .NET VB or (what i prefer) C# book
Guest squall Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 how about someone gives a quick guide to each of the different languges?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Thanks for the suggestions people. We'll put this on hold for now, but we've taken your ideas and will bear them in mind for the next meet :)
