Guest iownju Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Well, im new here, so just get that out of the way . But anyway, i had some questions about the SPV E200 and bringing it over to teh US and getting it to work. Ive looked around this site and others, looking at unlocking info and other stuff. From what ive read unlocking works, but sometimes gets reset, which is something i would like to know more about, alsong with other info. What i would like help on is wht tools do i need. What cell companies here in the US give the the best coverage, or are the easiest to get the pv to work on. Ive heard of people having to buy another cheap phone with the type of plan they want just so they could get the sim card and pt it in there spv. Is there anyway to get around this? Or an easier way to obtain a sim card for the phone. My biggest concern is tech support. Im going to purchase the phone, and after reading some of the questions here, most of the people here are in europe. But if something happens to my phone, i dont know what i could do to get it fixed or to get the help i need. I know i can always come here for help but im sure certain problems require manufacture help. So im still not sure if i should actually get the phone. Il have to dl that US stuff at the top of this forum. But if yu guys have any info on this that could help me out, plz tell me. Thanks for all help and info.
Guest martin Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Welcome iownju There are 2 types of unlock: application unlock and SIM unlock. The application unlock is part of the OS and will be lost after a hard reset while a SIM unlock is permanent. The E200 is tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 phone so it would possibly work best with T-mobile who has a dedicated GSM1900 network. T-mobile also seems to have the better GPRS price plans. Cingular uses GSM850 and AT&T GSM 1900 so Cingular/AT&T might be better with a quad band phone like the MPX220. You should be able to pick up an E200 quite cheap nowadays so I wouldn't worry too much about servicing etc. It might also be worth looking out for the new smartphone models being released very soon.
