Guest stu_lowe2003 Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Hi all I haven't posted here in quite a while and unfortunately it's with a gripe I am having with my mpx200 (and Orange). My mpx200 has started to crash to a black screen with a garbled display on the outer-lcd. When trying to switch it on it will sometimes get as far as the orange logo and then lock. Removal of the battery does not help. When left for about an hour it will magically start working again. The fault was not too inconvenient until it started doing it on a daily basis as it is now. Enter Orange, the customer service gurus?!?, who have argued with me for a good few hours today about it. They have sent the fault to their technical department who couldn't work out what was wrong with it. Then when I asked for a replacement they have decided that my phone freezing for an hour at any random point in the day is not enough to be classed as a fault. It needs to lock for 7 or 8 hours of the day to be a fault. So their final line on it is that a fault is not a fault unless they say it is too inconvenient. The customer service coach gave me an example. If half the screen died, but you could still see enough to make calls then that is not faulty. They also advised me that as a smartphone it has an in built feature to prevent damage to the phone, and this is what is happening. :P So I have an ask of the good people here. If you have had a phone replaced by Orange as faulty (any phone, not just mpx200s) for anything that wasn't as bad as it being dead for 7 hours a day then can you reply to this thread. I would like to see if Orange are true to their word in not replacing handsets that are not completely dead. I know from my experience they have as I had an spv replaced for dust. I have the file open with my local trading standards who found it incredible that they would say this to me. So any other ammo anyone can offer would be nice. Thanks for any help on this Stu
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Best thing for you to do is a Hard Reset with a fully charged battery. That should help you out :P
Guest stu_lowe2003 Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Best thing for you to do is a http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?p=97945#97945>Hard Reset with a fully charged battery. That should help you out :P :D Already tried that one, hopes were high until I tried to call with it and it was again dead for another hour. Thanks for the suggestion Stu
Guest jcjdoss Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Try upgrading your ROM, or for a stretch, if you've had your phone a while try a new battery
Guest mylifesaver Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 The same thing started happening to me yesterday. ALL of a sudden the outer lcd is garbled with lines and the display is dark with slight tints showing. I can't see anything unless it is pitch dark in the room and I hold it at an angle. Even like this it is messed up. Haven't dropped the thing or anything. ANYONE OUT THERE know of a solution??? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE> running 2003 on it. it is on tmobile network.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 Sounds like it's a hardware failure but a hard reset is worth a try anyway.
Guest hotphil Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 Might be worth another call to OCS and speaking to someone else. Alternatively, 5-10 seconds in a microwave usually renders LCD's completely useless and you then wouldn't be able to use it to make calls. Not that I'd suggest you try it at all.
Guest ronny Posted October 30, 2004 Report Posted October 30, 2004 if it's hardware problem, then i think that he is entitled for a replacement. if of couarse it is still under warranty.

Not that I'd suggest you try it at all. putting the phone in the microwave oven is not a right thing to do, for you to just avail of a replacement. all you have to do was to justify that the phone has faulty hardware and almost unusable, then that should be enough for you to get a replacement. ^_^
Guest lorismarcos Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 I had the same problem and i fixed it by my self. It's not a software problem. Its a hardware problemlcd_board.jpg
Guest ronny Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 if it's out of warranty you might try to fix it, but if it's still under warranty, i would suggest you to just bring your phone to an authorized service center. trying to dismantle the phone voids your warranty.
Guest lorismarcos Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 There is cable connecting to the marked place in the picture .I disconnected and connected the cable on my mpx200 and everything was working just fine
Guest Belgarath Krall Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 well...i can't say that the phone was freezing on me but i did suffer the almost black screens and messed up external lcd...sent it back to motorola - i can post their service number here when i get back tonight if u like...then again they have had it for a while now - supposedly "waiting for parts"
Guest wiggy Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 Very slightly off topic but in the same basic vein - I keep getting a 'Sim Missing or Invalid' error on my phone. My first phone worked perfectly right up the day it was nicked out of my car. The replacement worked fine for about 24 hours and then the above errors started appearing up to 8 or 9 times a day. Orange replaced have repalced the phone twice and the sim once but I'm still getting the error message. Anyone got any ideas. BTW I've tried cleaning the contacts both on the sim and the phone but to no effect.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 Check the SIM retaining lugs are not broken as this is a common fault.
