Guest danhughes87 Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 Hi, is it possible to setup your own GPRS ISP, im sure we would love a free GPRS service so is there anyway to make our own? Surley setting up a PC with BB or even dial up with a static IP address as a webserver would be possible with software? Or is this just a lame idea? DAN
Guest zeta101 Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 youre missing one important thing, the most important, how to u intend on sending signals to your mobile phone? you need a mobile phone transceiver, ie a mobile phone mast, and if you want to use the gprs in a wide area youd need a few masts. If you could afford to do that you may aswell pay for the gprs. When you pay for gprs its the connection to the big expensive phone masts your paying for as well.
Guest zeta101 Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 oh and the public arent allowed to operate transceivers that use mobile phone frequencies, cos its all regulated etc.

You are half right in that it is regulated (licensed) but anyone can apply for a license (doesn't mean you will get one). Similar to Ham Radio where all users must be licensed as they operate in a licensed band (bluetooth and 802.11 b/g operate in the 2.4MHz unlicensed band although there are maximum power outputs they must adhere to).
