Smartphone, GPRS, T-Mobile, Exchange, VPN, now make it work?

Ok so I have a Mio 8380 Smartphone 2002, T-Mobile Internet Service, a VPN to my exchange server, and an exchange server account I'd like to connect to.

 Now how do you make it work? GPRS is on, and VPN is configured under VPN, but now where do I put the exchange server info???

I understand the connectivity concept but I'm just lost on where to enter the info for exchange now... :?:

I searched the forums but none of those posts said anything about where to put settings and what not. In Active Sync on my PC it has a server checkbox but I can't play around with that until I get back with the cradle tomorrow... not sure if that's it...

Thanks

patrick

unless you know the vpn is working ok, turn that off until you get the exchange synching working ok.

you need either exchange 2003 or msft mobile server for older exchange. there are settings that have to done on the exchange side depending on above. if its exch 03 make sure you can do "oma" from your phone. if not, fix that first.

there good postings here. search for exchange 2003

or exchange activesynch.

port 443 and 80 have to be accessible to your phone and exchange server. i'm having trouble myself getting vpn to get thru.

the only other settings are done in your phone's activesynch menus, server.

btw, if all of above seems correct but can't connect, try hard resetting phone. also see troubleshooting at www.wnce.com chris herrera web site.

other fine point not always obvious from the posts: for wm 03, on phone, turn off ssl if you are not using a certif. (probably wouldnt if you use vpn).

for wm 2003 phone do not use the "certdisable" util . seems backwards to me, because on 2002 phone you would have used that but couldnt specify ssl or not.

(not sure about this, but maybe if you use your own (as compared to say Thawte) generate certif, that you would use the util? ) Can anyone comment?

Alright so I believe exchange at our school simply doesn't run 2003. So I'm out of luck right? I setup the inbox using imap which works ok.

Then I saw you could "sync with your desktop". That certainly could work. But I can't seem to get that to work at all either.

I really need someone to WALK ME through this. If the phone could remotely synch to my desktop (which is connected to exchange all the time) then I'd be very happy as it would be the same as synching with exchange server.

i feel for your frustration. Documentation on server synch is weak.

if you dont have exch 03, and dont have the Msft Mobile Server app for earlier exchange (which sounded to me like a major hassle), then yes you'll have to find those threads on synching to desktop via network which i assume is RAS?

Also look at www.wince.net Chris Herera sit for excellent help faq's.
