Must soft reset MPX200 between USB & wireless e-mail syn

I've run across the most frustrating issue when attempting to synch my MPX200 phone using Activesync connected my PC on our corporate WAN. Was able to reproduce same issue on another phone, so am convinced it's a config issue:

1.) Can synch wirelessly. Then, when placed in usb cradle, phone is often undetected OR, if detected, receives an INTERNET_31 error trying to connect to Outlook web mail using internet pass thru (enabled in PC Activesynch server rules setting)

2.) if after step #1 above, I cycle power of phone but do not attempt a wireless synch; when I put phone in cradle it will successfully synch via PC to internet.

3.) after step #2, if removed from cradle, am unable to sync wireless until I cycle phone's power again and repeat cycle

Surely others have seen this? Am driving myself crazy trying to solve so I can leave it in USB cradle charging and synching every 5 mins at work through my PC that's connected to internet.
