Guest Simon Desser Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 According to Phonescoop.com who were at the recent Moto Summer 2004 Event, the eagerly awaited Motorola MPx100, has been officially cancelled :!:    First, a quick note about what was not at the event - the MPx100. Unfortunately, Motorola officials confirmed that this device has officially been cancelled. It seems that market demand is simply much higher for clamshell-style models, especially among the professional users that are the target market for the MPx series Credit:- msmobiles As you can see, it's a sad day for everyone, especially Mono  By the way, they also reckon it's unlikely that the MPx will make an appearance this year  The MPx release date has slipped a bit since it was first announced. It's now unlikely (although not impossible) that we'll see it released anytime before the end of the year. The first quarter of 2005 is now the most likely timeframe. Carriers have not yet been finalized, although reportedly interest is high.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 So there we go then. I wonder what held it back so much? Maybe the C500 was enough to put them off completely... Never mind :/
Guest Exodia Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Damn you motorola! I was looking forward to having an mpx100. I spit on your name!
Guest Disco Stu Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 I can't say this has come as a surprise. What with the C500 and the MPx200 and the MPx, the MPx100 seemed redundant anyway. What was it going to be other than the C500 in larger format ?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Shame as I was looking forward to this puppy
Guest Pondrew Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 I think Motorola are making a mistake here. I also expect the vast majority of Modaco members would agree, and surely WE ARE the customer base. A sad day as even I have to admit that while the C500 has the form factor, the MPX100 definately had the style. Hell, until the C500 was announced the MPX100 was definately going to be my next Smartphone
Guest zeta101 Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 i reckon motorola are working on a newer model that will have a simialr style to the mpx100 but have the size of the c500, they probably figured they couldnt compete with the size (and cost) of the c500 (since the c500 will be much cheaper). The question is how long will it take them to get such a phone out (if they are actually working on one)...
Guest mcwarre Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 the eagerly awaited Motorola MPx100, has been officially cancelled :!:    Eagerly awaited by thousands by the look of it.......................... :P
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 *takes a moment to compose himself* :P
Guest Pagemakers Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 I feel as sick as a pig - but that may have been last night :P
Guest markgamber Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 Typical, that was the only phone I had any real interest in. I guess it's back to SonyEricsson. Damn it.
Guest agent.m Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 the fact that me and my girlfriend lost a whole heap of cash off ebay show how much i wanted the phone and just put the last nail in the coffin. looks like im sticking with my spv classic for another six months :(Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest RussellH Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 Gutted. This really is a shame. No MPx100, and the MPx delayed until next year. SPV C500 has no joystick, so what now? SE S700 the only other on my wish list, though this isn't out yet, may not be available on Orange, and isn't Windows based. A sad day!
Guest Toe Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 I can't understand it fully myself. To me it seemed like the MPx100 was going to be the version of the MPx220 for people who hated Clamshell styled phones. The lineup they had for the MPx Series was a killer and now they're taking out one of the key peices. Personally I wasn't going to be getting the MPx100 because I like the Clamshell style of the MPx220 but am somewhat disappointed to see it go
Guest agent.m Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 that sagem mys-7 is the poor mans mpx 100. so i'll wait till six months then decide whether to buy.Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest gex Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 So this model was being OEM'ed from Compal? Cant some other company (or enterprising web site) buy the hardware design and sell it under a different brand??? Comon someone.. do it!
Guest Pagemakers Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 How about a modaco user's buyout!
Guest kurtfhouse Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 Nice idea pagemakers :P Not quite sure if we could afford it though :? How many ModaCo members actually would buy this instead of a C500 or MPx220 :?
Guest haso0on Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 daaamn this sucks ! i was waiting for this phone !!! now i have no idea wht phone to get...
Guest refnulf Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 Get the V3 Razor man, it's gorgeousss
Guest midnight Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 nice looking the Razr may be, but the thing is bigger than an mpx220, and costs a small fortune (and isnt exactly feature packed either)
Guest casper508 Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 I was really looking forward to the MPX100. Looks like the next option is an SE S700 unless someone convinces me otherwise. Gutted!! Cas
Guest midnight Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 i dont know why people are so bothered about this, except for the form factor, the MPx100 and the MPx220 are practically identical, same processor, same ram, same os, same camera, same BT, everything. and the c500 looks every bit as good as the mpx220/100 except for the camera (although, the quality of the 220 camera hasnt impressed me in the slightest so far). with the c500 and the mpx220 out, is there really any room for the mpx100???? i think not (and it doesnt surprise me at all that moto noticed this aswell)

The MPX100 had the joystick and style that the C500 lacks (gaming isn't gonna be easy with the C500 direction buttons). Don't get me wrong, I was leaning towards the C500 before the MPX100 was rumoured cancelled, still, it would have been nice to have had the choice.
Guest Pagemakers Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 I dont agree either. You either love clams or you don't. I don't
