Guest bassplayinuk Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 Is there any software out there that would allow me to backup my contacts onto the SD card? I already have them all on the sim card but when you copy them there each persons home and mobile numbers are put as separate entries and if my phone screws up away from my computer it's a pain in the ass to reorganize the contacts as they were without activsync. Any suggestions?
Guest tortfeasor Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 outlook can probably do it. try droppin the files on an sd card from the pc
Guest Disco Stu Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 Another alternative is to use the Orange Backup service. Very handy for a restore if away from PC
Guest hvilorio Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 You can also try Sprite Backup. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest bassplayinuk Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Used Orange backup. Works a treat. Cheers.
Guest Siluri Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 I used to use Orange Backup and it worked well :) but i upgraded to 2003 and ive lost it and dont know how to get it back(need a backup for the backup :P ) Anyone have any ideas ??
Guest squall Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 I dont think there will be any way to get orange backup on a 2003 mpx200. only real option is to get someone to enter your O backup login details, sync the phone and send all the contacts from outlook k
Guest shaggyguitarist Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 i'm experencing backup problems too, but its to do with my sim card. My intention is to back up my 180 or so contact numbers from my phone memory onto my simcard, so i can switch them between phones. using sim manager i selected all needed contacts and copied them to the simcard...all good so far... I have discovered that they disappear when I turn the phone off. When it is shutting down a message saying "sim lost" appears on the top then when I turn it on again, they're gone... all except the 1st 2 entries?? Is the sim card not storing them properly or is the phone not recognising them?? Kinda defeats the purpose of saving them to sim in order to transport them, when as soon as i turn off they are gone..
Guest squall Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 not to sure why they would disappear. smartphones arent really the most sim friendly devices. My advice would be to sync your contacts with a pc to back them up, not use the sim or orange backup
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 I've only ever used Outlook to back up my contacts with all the the MS Smartphones phones I have had. Found this to be the most reliable method for me. :)
Guest mmystery Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 Hey! I'm not so sure, but i think that the file that holds all your contacts it's called mxip_initdb.vol and it is located in the IPSM root folder. You can copy it on the SD card, and make a backup of the contacts. Is there anyone that can confirm that this file is the correct one??? Another way is to make a synchonization with Outlook, although, many times, it doesn't copy all the numbers of the contacts. It think you should try the copying i mentioned before, but i haven't any responsability for it, if something goes wrong! :) I hope it will work! Cheers, mmystery
Guest shaggyguitarist Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 Ta for the replys, but i need to be able to transfer the contacts between phones, so I need to get the sim card to store them. Do you think maybe my sim is faulty? If it is can I get a replacement?
