Guest acjunglist203 Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 Greetings! I've had my MPX200 upgraded to 2003 for about 2 weeks now...everything has been flawless until yesterday. The phone won't charge at all (Cradle via ac power or USB). At first I thought it was a failing battery, so I picked up a new one; same problem. Here's the funny thing, when I plug it into my desktop or laptop, ActiveSync automatically recognizes it and syncing starts up. But still no charge... Has anyone had this problem before and how did you fix it? Is it a hardware issue? This is driving me crazy...I basically live off this phone for work... Thanks for the help! Cheers... AC
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 The only thing to try would be a Hard Reset, sounds as if something went wrong during the update.
Guest jessmorg Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 I've had the exact same thing happen to me this weekend! But, I haven't upgraded to 2003 or installed any other new software recently. Also have no power now to try a hard reset. I'm assuming it must be a hardware issue. Any other ideas would be very welcome!
Guest tortfeasor Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 i had this happen with another phone i had. turned out the contact on the plug were loose. hopefully this is not your case as the mpx200 has a prety sturdy miniusb plug
Guest mpx-za Posted August 14, 2004 Report Posted August 14, 2004 I have the same problem with my phone, the excact same problem. Guest ShinyBill Posted August 14, 2004 Report Posted August 14, 2004 Me also with the same problem... :P As I'm now out of power and have no spare phone I'm not gonna live long!
Guest mpx-za Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 :) I actually tried flashing the old sp2002 back to my phone, because i wanted to take it back for a warranty claim, it did not even want to do that, so i send it back to motorola, hopefully i can get it fixed.
Guest Adnane Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Hi, i just had the same problem with my mpx200. first it started with a low autonomy (it could not even stay in stand by mode for 12 hours) and a couple of days after i couldn't charge (cable and craddle). i just sent it back to the company because i thought that it was a hardware problem but apparently it might not be!!
Guest guyonetwo Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Ok I have the same problem with my 2002 MPX200 (no upgrades) . Stopped Charging and now the Battery is Dead. I have seen you guys mention alot of options but never saw a for sure this is what fixed me or my return to Motorola resolved my issue (rather than replaced the phone) .. Can someone perhaps provide us with the results of their successes or failures ??
Guest philthy Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 http://www.buynshop.com/productinfo/2182/CF-UNIVBTCHA/ maybe this standalone battery charger would work for you. it seems like it can charge the battery when it's not in your phone.
Guest srg59 Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 BUMP. I too am in the same boat now. My MPx200 stopped charging all of a sudden. I don't think it's the USB jack; I suspect something fried on the dc-dc board. It sounds like this is a fairly common problem, has anyone found a solution other than an external charger?
Guest sophantim Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 I'am also with 2002 mpx200 phone. I think iam useing the wrong charger and over charging. Than one day it stop charging. It ok now for my 2003 phone and i have for 8 month now.
Guest tHe_ReliC Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 My phone did the same. It went off while I was in a call. I got home, put it on the charger and it would not charge. I got it to fire upp again, but it stalled on the Smartphone 2002 startup logo. Could not active sync, nothing and it would not charge on the Cradle or the charger. Took it back to motorola, turns out it was the battery causing it. New battery, and now everything seems normal. Battery lifetime still sucks though. Day, 2 at the most.
Guest mike-oh Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 I had my mpx200 stop charging too. Turned out to be the phone at fault. I had to get a replacement throught orange care. Regards, Mike
Guest mpx-za Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Ok guys, i am a happy lad today, got my phone back from motorola, it seems to me that they changed my battery and changed my mini usb port. I think they might have fixed something on the board as well, not sure though but it is working now so it is cool. they also did not have any hassle about me having 2003 on the phone, they simply flashed it back to the 2002 version. it seems the motorola mpx 200 has a problem with the mini usb port and the charging unit, someone else told me about having the same problem of not charging, so it might be one of the reasons why motorola went to a different connector on the mpx220.
Guest equis Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 I have an ATT mpx200 and my battery just went completely dead on me 2 days ago. I tried the phone wall charger, desktop even left in the car charger all day nothing. So I am in the states should I just send it to Motto USA for a fix or to ATT? I flashed it to SP2002 unbranded anyone know if ATT will get all fussy about it being altered?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Most of the time they do not look at the phones before repair but there is always the chance they may get funny about it. As you have invalidated your warranty buy installing ilegal software.
Guest tehdarkstar Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 I have had exactly the same problem with my first MPx200 and MOTO have replaced it right away. By this thread I can see why they did that, as it looks like a very common problem. Cheers.
