Guest Becca32 Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Got my mpx from Orange two months ago & I can't disconnect from GPRS without actually turning the phone off. Then, I got an extortionate bill from them for GPRS usage stating I had d/led 6meg in a month, just checking email, news and sport! Called Orange who have sent me another phone, still can't disconnect and keys are really sticky! Any advice or info on where I'm going wrong?!?!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Welcome to the site :D Unless the signal bars on the main screen show a G you are not using GPRS the G in the top center of the main display and the signal bars of the LCD display just mean you have GPRS enabled only not that you are using it. It is a common mistake :P
Guest Becca32 Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Thanks for reply but that is where G is, in signal bars and I can't clear it without switching off phone... any more ideas??!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 So on the main display ONLY when you make a call the G on the signal bars changes into a phone symbol? can you make calls? if so you are not connected to GPRS It sounds to me like you may be mistaking the LCD G and G on the main display as these will disappear after rebooting the phone until you connect to the service again. As for GPRS charge you are only charged for data you recieve so unless you are refreshing web pages or using MSN you will not be charged for GPRS usage just for being connected (apart from a very small ammount when the phone checks it's connection.
Guest steveuk99 Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 After you've finished browsing the internet make sure you disconnect by pressing the hang up button (red phone thingy.........i'm sure its got a proper name). A G will still appear on the outer LCD display and the top centre of the main display but not on the top right (the signal bars) of the main display. I would recommend downloading the IMeter to keep track of each months usage. Hope this helps.
