Guest mistercash Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Hello, well I'm currently looking for adding gps to my smartphone. Now I don't find any thing usefull. So I gonna ask my quesion here. technical it should be possible to equip your smartphone with gps through mini usb and charge at the same time. This way you can leave the gps receiver in the car and don't have to bother about battery use. Can somebody help me with this? I have a mpx200. I have seen that soon tomtom will release a software for smartphones, but the thing that bothers me is that it probably will work with a gps receiver on bleutooth and not through the miniusb. If that is so then my mpx200 won't able to use it. Maybe some people know some inside sources for more details about this. Or maybe we could create one gps receiver on our own from a normal gps receiver on mini usb and then make drivers for it to use it on mpx200 likes. Let me know what you think about it.
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Hi there Mistercash Unfortunately the mpx200 does not have a serial port :P To use a GPS you will need an E100, E200 etc sorry. If you can get hold of one of these phones theres lots of info on how to get a GPS to work.
Guest mistercash Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 But isn't it possible to make it work on that mini usb port? Because if you connect it to the pc there is also communication up and down. So why then shouldn't it be possible to utilize it?
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 The problem with the MPx 200 is that the usb port used is only a slave port and not a host (in other words cheap) Take a look at GpsPasSion Forums They already been through the mill trying, sorry.
Guest mistercash Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 But now with the 2003 version out for the mpx200. shouldn't that solve the problem? a bleutooth device on mini usb and then install the drivers for bleutooth for it. That would very suck if it wouldn't work
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 It's still a matter of hardware not OS.
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 Like Awarner says its the hardware. The Mpx200 does not physicaly have a serial port, changing from 2002 to 2003 wont change that for you :P
Guest mistercash Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Like you see there is somewhere in the article a mentin of smartphone connection. link: http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/leadtek9532.php isn't it possible to use the mini usb as connection for gps receiver. I don't understand why there isn't a gps through USB? When you sync your MPX200 through the mini usb there is data going up and down. So why shoudn't this be possible with a gps receiver? You probably should have to use a driver that you have to install on your mpx200 to recognize the gps. This can't be hard with some knowledge
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 As mentioned time and time again in this post it is not possible.
