Guest madhatter2k Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 My Original SPV (which is unlocked and using an o2 sim) has been playing up lately, in that i keep getting "No Service" and occsaionally "check the sim is inserted correctly, blah blah". I can't make any calls, receive calls, send or receive texts, or anything that would involve the use of a network. I've tried the same SIM in my old phone and it works fine, i'm able to make calls and everything lovely. What's going on?
Guest kyrkesmith Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 You sure you're in an area with decent reception? You tried re-starting phone and turning aeroplane mode off and on?
Guest madhatter2k Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 Yep, yep, and yep. I've also tried a hard reset.
Guest martin Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 Try going into Setting-Telephony-Networks, Menu-Select a network and search for the networks again. Also make sure that Network slection is set to Automatic I know that some past members have had a similar problem and managed to fix it by re-installing the ROM software.
Guest madhatter2k Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 Under the network settings, i have "Current network: No service" and the network selection is set to automatic. I think I may as well try flashing the latest ROM again. I'll let you know how it goes... Thanks for your help!
Guest martin Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 When in Telephony-networks, did you try using the Menu-Select a network ? Does it find ANY networks ?
Guest madhatter2k Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 as soon as I tried checking, it selected "find a new network" it said "ERROR - The settings could not be saved" Just about to reinstall the ROM now...
Guest madhatter2k Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 just finished reinstalling the rom, which completed successfully, but it's still doing the exact same thing. makes me think it's the sim, though it works fine in my other mobile...
Guest martin Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 Hmm I was sure that was gonna work :? Hopefully it's not a faulty phone. The only other thing I can think of is to insert the SIM in your other phone and clear the SIM memory (ie delete SMS's etc stored on the SIM) and then try it again. Do you have other SIMS you can try ?
Guest madhatter2k Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 i have just inserted my old orange sim, and am still getting "No Service" I don't understand though, it's only been doing this recently. I dont see why it would have just stopped functioning like that...
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 Are you sure the handset has not been blocked? Also try cleaning the SIM terminals on the phone.
Guest madhatter2k Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 .....how would i know if the handset has been blocked?! i've cleaned the connectors on the mobile, and on the SIM itself numerous times, that's what I thought it was at first.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 Only way to find out if the handset is blocked is by contacting the network.
Guest kyrkesmith Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 The one whose SIM originally came with the phone, I would suppose. Otherwise the one on whose SIM the phone still worked last.
