Guest Transform Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if there will ever be a time where you can send a text which has more than 160 characters in it. Most phones receive a text with more than 160 characters in 2 separate texts so the other person may get confused after reading the first one, being only half of the message. I find it hard to fit messages in with 160 characters and end up having to delete stuff. I believe that the SPV's receive texts as an all in one text. Am I right?
Guest element Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 Yeah, i've had texts sent in the past which were 2 or more, and have come up on my SPV as one big text.
Guest Cybertronic Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 I think on montly bill phones you get less characters than PAYG phones :? I've seen some of my friends having more characters for their texts in their own PAYG phones :P
Guest ajb3000 Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Errr... All SMS using plain text can contain up to 160 characters, no matter what from it is sent from or to, or what tariff either user is on, that is the standard. If your phone lets you type over the 160 character limit, it will be split into multiple SMS consisting of 155 characters each (5 bytes are used in the splitting process). These will be delivered as individual messages, and regrouped into a single message at the other end if the recipients phone supports it, otherwise they will be displayed seperately. The SPV does split (concatenate) up to 10 SMS when composing, and will regroup split messages it recieves. Remember you do get charged for each message sent, so a text containing 161 characters will be charged as 2 seperate SMS.
