This is just is the theory and me thinking out loud

On my old mobiles I used to get an area code locator to where I am. So I guess the mobile has a built in location device when im connected to a network.

Is it possible to use that for gps positioning? Im sure it works on the same idea. Also that way we could have tom tom etc using that instead of a gps dongle.
