Guest bauer Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 Hi, has this new update ruined anyone elses phone? has anyone been able to fix it? Had a chat with orange, who passed me onto HTC Europe, their saying i would have to pay a hefty fee just to get the phone looked at  It pains me to see my beautiful phone lying on my desk as a paper weight. Can anyone help
Guest Pondrew Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 What's actually wrong with it mate? We might be able to help if you can give more details...
Guest bauer Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 Hi, thanks for the reply, it seems as i installed the new rom update it remained idle for a good 2 hours. i had rom operator 1.1.1.4. Now when i switch on the phone it goes straight into boot loader mode. Ive tried a hard reset, but instead of giving me options 1-8 the screen is just blank, by blank i mean white. I read some where that if im able to access bootloader mode there is a chance of salvaging my phone. If you could help i would forever be in your debt.
Guest Pondrew Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Ok, by bootloader screen I assume you mean the tri colour screen? If so, with the phone in bootloader screen put it in the cradle and run the update again on your pc. It should run after a few minutes. Let us know if it works or not... EDIT: oh, and make sure any firewalls are turned off as they can stop the update working. EDIT2: Windows XP SP2 has Windows Firewall turned off by default so if you have SP2 make sure the firewalls off.
Guest bauer Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 I have zone alarm, switching that off hasnt helped. Im not sure if i have sp2, by that i assume u mean service pack 2. How do i find out what service pack im running, and how do i switch off sp2 firewall. Thanks again for ur help
Guest ajb3000 Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 If you're not sure whether you have Service Pack 2 or not then you can be 99.9% sure you don't. But to check, right click on the My Computer icon and select Properties. It will say in that windows under the OS details.
Guest bauer Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Thanks for that, ive checked it and it would seem i dont have sp2. I also checked whether windows default firewall was disabled, it was. So now what do i do? This so frustrating :x Thanks again for taking the time to reply
Guest Pondrew Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 So you've put the phone in its cradle while in the tri colour screen, made sure ZoneAlarm is deactivated/disabled, and run the update? What happened? Also can you tell us what version bootloader you have, should say on the tri colour screen... Anyone else have any suggestions? Could this be something that requires Florin-M's fixed exe? That's not something I've ever had to get involved in... :?
Guest sparkisgti Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 mine done the same thing.. i just put it back to the old version .. http://web.orange.co.uk/assets/sw/RUU_v2.4...UK_v2.6.1.3.exe just run it and itll reflash back to previous version and work fine
Guest squall Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 Be sure you have a sd card of any size in the phone before trying to do a hard reset. if you dont you will get stuck at a white screen :P
Guest londonlad Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 battery life down from 3 days to 1 day after update. even with the battery fuly charged at the time of update.
Guest bauer Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 On the canary screen it says i have v1.03 doc, i assume this is the boot loader version. Thanks for the link sparkisgti, unfortunately that hasnt fixed my phone either. Ive tried using florin's fix along with the the latest rom update but that hasnt helped either. Does anyone have any other ideas of how to fix this problem?
Guest element Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 When you attempt to install the update, does the installer on the PC freeze?
Guest bauer Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 yes you could say that, the message 'checking spv e200....etc." remains on the pc. Like i said earlier i have turned off my zone alarm firewall before installing rom.
Guest element Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 I had the same problem when update mine to the 2.6.3.1 rom (I think it was that one) It would just say, checking, and then not do much else. I fixed this problem by using the NBF file from the unpacked UK update, and used this with the french installation package. Dont know why, but I tried it, and it worked. The installation was in french, but the phone itself was updated using all of the settings etc from the UK update, I still have the files somewhere I think... Maybe that would help?
Guest bauer Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 At this point im willing to try anything. I'd love to try it, if you still have the files could you please send them to me or post them up in the forum. Thanks in advance
Guest element Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 I've uploaded a zip file to some webspace http://homepage.ntlworld.com/rebecca.davie...PV%20Update.zip just unzip and click on the VoUpgradeUt Icon. Hope it works, did for me.
Guest bauer Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 Thanks for the link element, unfortunately this hasnt worked either. The message checking information on phone..etc just stays on screen. Are there any other methods i can try?
Guest Cybertronic Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 Have you not tried on another PC?
Guest bauer Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 Cant install software on another pc, i get a error saying RAPI.dll not found or something when trying to run the rom update.
Guest bosshogg2003 Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 On the second machine, try reloading active sync and restart the pc, then try from bootloader. Another possibility would be to try another USB port. You could also disconnect all usb devices except the cradle as some motherboards share front and rear ports.
Guest bauer Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 Thanks bosshogg2003 for the advice, ill try installing activesync again on the other pc, in the meantime are there any other methods i can use on my computer? I read on another topic here that some e200's have a newer rom than the one posted on oranges website, could this be the problem? ive tried florins patch but that hasnt helped, it crashes my computer, it starts flashing and the entire screen(my montior) goes grey. Any ideas why that may be happening? and is it related in any way to my inability to install the rom update ?
Guest ferret Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 If it's plugged in via a ?-1 hub. try re running it with the phone connected directly to the PC. Have heard that this sometimes causes problems.
Guest bauer Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 I have the cradle directly connected to the pc, again unfortunately this hasnt helped in fixing the problem. Im running out of ideas
Guest Jon_ Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 you spoke to orange customer services at all?
