Plastic film over display?

Can someone confirm whether there's actually a plastic film covering the entire screen area piece? Wonder whether this can be peeled off, or meant to be kept on as a permanent protective layer for the display  .

Like the others, my SPV also came fully charged, with plastic films on IR and camera lens, but none on the lcd screen.

Look closely at yr SPV against the light and you'll see that the plastic piece covering the display is more shinier than the rest of the phone body front which is in a matte finish. This shiny look may be due to a thin piece of plastic lamination pressed to the piece. This is common in electrical and hifi component displays.

Im thinking of getting some cheapo laminate that we used to cover books with at school for my screen. Im thinking that it wont be low tack enough though :D and make a mess of my screen when i come to take it off.

Why not buy like an iPaq screen protector and trim it down?

At least then you have the right material for the job...

I did have plastic on my screen. I have taken it off with no problems.

I didn't have any plastic on my screen and within 1 day I had scratches on it from very little use!

Lucky for me, orange are replacing my phone (very helpful!) because I am still within the 7 day trial you get when ordering over the phone. :D

I am of course very interested in preventing this from happening again, so I may give this ipaq screen protector a go. Where can you buy them from?

Cheers

Even high street places like Dixons now sell PDA screen protectors now (well, my local one does!).

Failing that, PC world should be a safe 'bricks-and-mortar' bet...
