What has knackered my e200??

Erm ... just had a bit of a breakdown! :? My e200 was just stuck at the startup screen. So I was forced to hard reset. :evil:

Now I'm just wondering exactly what has caused this. A quick serach on the topic seemed to suggest that if you don't hard reset after doing an update (which I did NOT do after the update last week) that can cause corruption leading to this problem.

However, the same thing happened to me pre-update, on a phone which had been hard reset numerous times since the last update ... which is making me wonder if its to do with homescreen changing. This might sound crazy, but obviously I change my homescreen alot. Sometimes probably 50 times in a day, when I'm designing stuff - which I pretty much constantly do! :P My e200 hangs with annoying regularity when I change homescreens. If I'm working on something, I might change the screen 5 or 6 times over a 15 minute period, and without fail the phone will hang up at some point during that time. Most of the time requiring a battery pull, as the quick list will not come up. Its a weird hang up, coz I can still scroll up & down the menu screen, but neither of the softkeys respond, nor does the power button.

On this occassion, I had just finished a good old homescreen session, when I got yet anbother hang up, so pulled the battery once again - and got stuck at startup. I just wonder now have I knackered my e200 with too much homescreen changing!? Is that possible?? If it is, will a hard reset fix it? It seems OK now, but could I have corrupted something thats not fixed by a hard reset?

Has anybody any clues?

Have you tried to reflash your ROM version update? Maybe your ROM has been corrupted :P

nope! i did reflash the update, then hard reset. its definately homescreen related. after hard reset twice last night, it has hung on startup 4 times this morning, after me editing & swapping screens. it seems to decide it doesnt like an xml, then hangs, & coz it doesnt like the xml, on reboot it hangs. although just as i was about to hard reset again, it started up in the start menu, wouldnt go back to the homescreen, but i was able to change the homescreen, & then it booted up fine! bizzare or what? I don't know what has knackered your phone, but sounds like changing homescreen a lot could be the cause - I sometimes have problems after homescreen changes - even though the homescreen works fine normally.

Anyway, just thought I would suggest that you put a cab in your startup which sets a known safe homescreen, then if you do have to pull the battery, when it restarts you should be ok, cos the cab will reset the homescreen :wink:

hmm... good thinking mrmagoo! although, would that not install any time i restart the phone? through choice or not?

i think i may have isolated the problem down to a new plugin i'm beta testing, as without that the problem has stopped. but i'm still not 100% sure.

yeah, it would reset every time you reboot, but i thought that would be a small price to pay considering your problem...
