Parrot Car Kit - C500

I have noticed that Parrot who make the amazing bluetooth car kit range supports the C500. It also seems that more features are availble compared to the E200.

I would like to add, i have just fitted a Parrot CK3100 kit to my New Beetle and it is so easy to fit. Everything is based on ISO connectors and if your car has an AMP and a phone input to the radio ( like Audi's, BMW etc) or it is non-iso then they even provide the wires for that scenerio. All you have to do is pair the phone as a Microsoft device and sit back and enjoy safe handsfree driving! 10/10 Parrot! This has to be the defacto accessory for any serious phone user, and it works with most other phones as well :D

I've got one too and it's fantastic. Great news that it will work with the C500 (although the image on the post in the news isn't actually the C500!). Only thing it doesn't seem to do is automatically sync up phone books but that only happens with a very small selection of phones.

Out of interest, what is the difference between headset and handsfree profiles?

handsfree also allows the other bt device to show the name and/or number of the person that is calling you and i think network signal too. so its better for carkits.

Just ordered one of these....be here Tuesday...now just need to secure a c500...and a 512mb mini SD card...to get back up to cutting edge

lowbug/antlane - did you guys install yourself? If not how much did you get charged? My car has (expensive) stereo built into facia....I just know I'll bugger things up if I try a DIY.

I fitted it myself. It was dead easy - take out the two iso connectors from the radio and fit them into the parrot instead. Then take the two iso connectors from the parrot and put these into the stereo. Then you just need to route the mic and the control panel wires. It took me a couple of hours to do. The hardest thing was working out how to remove the panels without breaking anything!

I have a alpine sat nav unit it fitted in my Bug, i whacked it in about 1.5 hours, you will be fine. :P The hardest bit to do is ensure you have the mute wire correct, so easy. What car / radio do you have and post on here, i'm happy to help :D

Cheers Lowbug...sounds like you've played around with an expensive piece of kit and lived to tell the tale.

I have a Lexus RX300 SE-L. The stereo is a custom fit to that model made by a specialist Hi-Fi maker and is built into the facia console. It won't just slide out with pins like most stereo's. If I had any dosh over from buying the car I'd just get the dealer to fit it.

As Antlane mentions the most worrying thing for me is taking the front panel off the facia console without damaging it. I'll try to search a Lexus forum and come back to you.

To remove the radio, unclip the panel housing the cigar lighter and remove the two 10mm bolts. Remove the two 10mm bolts in the recess, taking care not to drop them, and then lever the radio unit out. The mute can be located on the larger white connector via the grey wire.

Out of interest, what firmware have you guys got for the Parrot 3000. Mine is 3.10. It lists the firmware in the BT devices (i.e. Parrot CKv3.10).

I have all the kit to upgrade the parrot firmware, so just want a guide to what works with the C500.

My C500 arrives next week so will want to sort this out asap as the parrot is an essential bit of kit for me.

my CK3000 is running version 3.12 and works fine with my C500 - pairs each and everytime within seconds of turning the key.... My old E200 had real problems pairing on 3.12 so i got rid of it and got a Nokia6600 which paired fine.... Thank god the C500 came out though, couldn't stand that nokia, first time i dropped it, i didn't feel upset :roll: .. thats when I knew i didn't like the nokia!!!

Hmm, this looks like a nice bit of kit. Anyone installed one of these in a Corsa (latest model - 2001+)??

Also where would be the cheapest place to get one of these from? Ive seen the ck3000 model around for about £90.

yes you need to object push the contacts via bluetooth :) Beam them to the kit.

does your radio have a mute input?

If not using a relay you could switch the igntion wire to the radio, this would therefore cut power to the radio and provide a mute function.

Has anyone managed to configure the Parrot via the C500? On my T610, I had a Parrot menu where I could set up things like wordspotting on the car kit, but I can't find any way to make that happen via the C500.

This is where the CK3100 is far better than the 3000 as all the settings are done on the LCD panel. So you don't need to have one of a very limited list of phones (I think it's ony certain Sony Ericssons) to configure it properly. The 3100 is also better as you can easily adjust the volume and make calls without having to reach for the phone + you can see who's calling as it comes up on the display.

I don't think the C500 supports this in it's BT profile. In fact the T610 is one of the few phones that do. Must admit I miss that about my T610, plus the voice dial in the C500 doesn't work all that well with the parrot. I keep getting the wrong name :?

Will have to devise better voice tags!

Otherwise the C500 beats the T610 hands down
