Guest Shaks Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 Hi all I have been unable to access the msmobilenews.com website and all links to it since I moved from ntl broadband to metronet adsl (excellent and really cheap no frills pay as you go adsl supplier). All other websites run fine and I know msmobilenews is not down as I can access new cached pages for it in google and new links for it keep appearing in modaco and coolsmartphone.com. The error I get in IE is Cannot find server or DNS error. In Mozilla Firefox I get the following error "The operation timed out when attempting to contact www.msmobilenews.com". I am behind a 3com 3CWRE754G72-A Modem/Wireless Router. I have tried turning the firewall settings in the router off. I have this problem with all the pc's on my network. All pc's are running Windows 2003 Server. All other websites work perfect! Any Ideas? Shaks
Guest Vector Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 hmm, I know that midnight also has a problem accessing MSMobileNews.com, and beersoft is looking into it, but for now, not sure what to reccommend :P
Guest Gorskar Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 try opening a command prompt (Start, Run, type "cmd" hit enter) Then try typing "tracert www.msmobilenews.com" What do you get? This is what I get (and its working fine for me btw) C:Documents and SettingsJames Sweet>tracert www.msmobilenews.com Tracing route to www.msmobilenews.com [64.5.60.205]over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 2 19 ms 19 ms 19 ms gadamer-dsl.zen.net.uk [62.3.83.3] 3 19 ms 19 ms 19 ms bolzano-ge-0-0-1-1.wh.zen.net.uk [62.3.80.225] 4 20 ms 20 ms 19 ms erazmus-ge-0-0-0-0.wh.zen.net.uk [62.3.80.49] 5 28 ms 25 ms 26 ms lorenz-so-0-1-0-0.te.zen.net.uk [62.3.80.45] 6 25 ms 25 ms 26 ms ge9-0.mpr2.lhr1.uk.above.net [195.66.226.76] 7 25 ms 26 ms 26 ms pos4-0.mpr1.lhr1.uk.above.net [208.185.156.13] 8 27 ms 25 ms 26 ms so-4-1-0.cr1.lhr3.uk.above.net [208.184.231.174] 9 96 ms 97 ms 98 ms so-7-0-0.cr1.dca2.us.above.net [64.125.31.186] 10 98 ms 100 ms 97 ms so-0-0-0.cr2.dca2.us.above.net [64.125.29.122] 11 126 ms 129 ms 130 ms so-2-3-0.cr2.dfw2.us.above.net [64.125.29.13] 12 126 ms 126 ms 125 ms 216.200.88.141.theplanet.com [216.200.88.141] 13 126 ms 126 ms 126 ms car2-4-v2.dllstx2.theplanet.com [12.96.160.52] 14 126 ms 129 ms 129 ms ns1.redbackinternet.com [64.5.60.205] Trace complete.
Guest beersoft Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 ok, some isp's dont do dns correctly through proxys which upsets hosts that don't do virtualhosts correctly to get it to work, go start > run "notepad c:WINDOWSsystem32driversetchosts" and add to the bottom 64.5.60.205 www.msmobilenews.com save the file and you should be rocking and rolling :P i will get a permanat fix sorted out, but that should get you working later Owen
Guest Shaks Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 I tried what you suggested Owen but still no joy. I can't ping/tracert your web address or IP address nor can I access your website by typing the IP into the browser. Ping's timeout and tracert get to 11 hops then the rest time out. Am I right in saying you edit the c:WINDOWSsystem32driversetchosts file and not a file called lmhost? However as I can't access the site via the IP address then I guess editing the hosts file won't help me. Shaks

Guest beersoft Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 ok, the hosts/lmhosts should have worked I have done some more digging and drawn a blank (Again) if you point your browser at http://64.5.60.205 you should get redirected to a ssl page. but in testing some people see it, and others dont if the fine hosts can't get it working, im upping sticks and moving the site to something that works for everyone pm me if you still can't get it working later Owen
Guest Shaks Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 Don't know what you've done Owen but since yesterday it's been working fine! Cheers Shaks
