Guest neilg Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 Hi All, Has anyone got their Orange Sync up and running yet - I have tried a search but so far been unable to find aything on it here. The Icon appeared last week for me as part of the email and organise tab and owuld be a great app since I use lots of devices. It owuld be great to sync via the web/gprs so I don't have to have loads of sync programms on my PC. Only problem is that so far I can't logon to it, the service says that it is only available to orange numbers. Except that mine is an orange number and I can access account setup, invoices, email etc. Just not Sync
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 SyncML is not supported on Smartphone, but this is not a service i've heard of anyway... link to details? P
Guest neilg Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 Hi Paul, Been too long since I used my (original) SPV! - Was hoping that the C500 would have Sync ML! The service is located after logon area on O website so I can't link direct but if you have an O web account set up goto: http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Satellite...mailAndOrganise (watch the line break). OR O-UK homepage>select email and organise from menu on left and then you will see the sync option screen bottom centre. If you don't have the option perhaps select a P900 as your default device and then try again? You can link your PC over the web to the O server and update from there or also sync up to 6 different devices with Sync ML support. Motorola MPx200 is apprently SyncML compatible? Is this correct? Whilst I cannot access the service because my Orange account seems to have too many numbers and devices associated and lots of ported numbers which aren't recognised as O I can still download the userguide etc.
Guest Cybertronic Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Is this the Orange Synchronisation Companion? :?
Guest neilg Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 not sure - sorry, it is a web-based service but not called synchronisation companion where i log in.
Guest Dr Who Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Hi neilg, you are just the man I need to talk to! I was hoping to use this service to port my missus' contact numbers from her Nokia to her new C500, but when investigating it using my account I was getting the same message as you (I currently have an E200). I can't even look at the details as it won't let me get beyond the "non valide number thing" so you say you can sync your PC (or Smartphone!?!?) over the internet? How does this work? Do you get a .csv file or can you import direct into Outlook? If I can get them into Outlook on my laptop then I can Activesync them back onto the new phone? Any idea???
Guest neilg Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 nope- afraid not. there are lots of 'pay for' sync ml services (no good for MS smartphone by the looks of things) if you just google sync ml you will see a bunch. The reason I like the orange idea is because it is free!! For the moment I am resigned to using my PC and active sync for MS devices and then sony-ericsson sync software on the same PC to sync with my P900. If you are syncing with lots of devices I owuld recommend backing up your outlook contacts to a .pst beforehand.....just in case........ Let me know if you get orange working - I have asked them to delete my internet account so I can re-register and start again from scratch.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 I believe if you have a browse around the Windows dir on the C500 you'll find the DAT contact wizard, that can be launched and used to receive contacts via IR from Nokias! P
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Failing that, you can use Nokia Data Suite to sync the Nokia to Outlook, then use ActiveSync to sync to the C500. P
Guest Dr Who Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 I try and avoid the Nokia Data Suite like the plague. Really, really rubbish bit of software. Could use it but I REALLY don't want to install it. Intrigued by the contact wizard. Is there a link from the start menu or do I have to 'open' the .exe from the browser? Haven't even turned on my C500 yet!
