Guest louisg Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 Hello all, Just called Orange and asked if i could upgrade my phone to a c500. i thought i would incur a massive upgrade fee as i only got my e200 handset in april 2004. I was suprised when i was told that the phone would be free and that the upgrade fee would only be £50 plus vat so all in all £58.75 They are all out of stock at the moment but i will be ordering mine as of next week as advised Hope this helps Louis p.s. i am on a square deal if anyone wondered.

What are your monthly payments? I am in the same situation, upgraded to E200 in March 2004 and could easily sell the E200 on ebay to cover the costs! Thanks Jazz

Guest Rob.P Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 I was told on upgrades that as my monthly contract is over £25 a month I wuld get the C500 for free, although I haven't actually asked for it yet as I'm still undecided about it & the MPx220, might wait until both are out then both contracts will be a lot closer to their 12 month upgrade times.

Guest shaund316 Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 hey about this upgrade thing.. had the spv e200 since february on a £25 per month contract (for 12 mths) so r u saying that it's free to upgrade but u pay whats left of the contract so e.g. 5 months left x £25 per month = £125 etc? because if u r I'm one happy person lol cheers

She told me she would talk to upgardes, when she return i was quoted a free phone, but would have to pay upgrade fee of £50 plus VAT Louis
Guest shaund316 Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 oh right cheers that sounds brill but just one more little question (lol), when u pay this cash to upgrade it, do u keep the existing months left on your contract because I use the e200 on payg and my dad uses the contract sim in his phone. If the contract just stops when you upgrade it I'll have 2 wait till february when it runs out cheers (again)

Guest t3dluke Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Every orange shop, and orange on 150 have told me that upgrading inside contract (if paying £25 a month or more) is £75 ex VAT (£88.13 inc VAT). I'm off to my local Orange shop to pick one up tomorrow. Please remember that you're back into a 12 month contract again from the day you upgrade. PS Do you keep your old handset?

Nope you need to sign up to a new 12 month contact - How else would orange claw back the money on your discounted/free c500! If they did allow you to upgrade without renewing then people could get a free c500, sell it, then sign up for a contract with another provider :roll: costing Orange $$ with no return, not good business practice! If you are out of contract you can only upgrade by taking out a new 12 month contract. This is what I did on Tuesday. I had had my original SPV for 14 months and upgraded to the C500 for free under a new 12 month contract. The reason phones are cheap in the UK is that the phone companies subsidise the costs to get people to take out 12 month contracts. Elsewhere in the World people pay a lot more for the phones than we do. There are two ways to get the phone off contract. The first is to buy one from a company like Expansys for nearly £300 or to wait until they are available on PAYG and pay anything from £100 to £200 for it (my guess on the price).

I wasnt due an upgrade, and I am not sure how far through my original contract I was, I think I stared it in Feb 2004. Anyway, from an Orange shop, my C500 was £100+VAT for the upgrade.
