Guest taxmanken Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Lo, I am currently using an MPX200 with an SD 512mb card. I use my phone for watching a lot of southpark, scrubs etc etc on the move. Can anyone advise if there is a /any performance improvement using these apps when compared to the SPV E200 or MPX200? Cheers guys.
Guest I. C. Monsters Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 I don't know about the MPx200, but the video performance on my C500 is excellent. I'm using Betaplayer, which has played video with stereo audio at 128kbps without any problems. I'm very pleased with the video performance of this little beauty. I. C. Monsters.
Guest peanut Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 The performance is better because the C500 uses a 200mhz porcessor and the the other SPV's only use a 132mhz processor. I find the whole phone is SOOOOOOO much quicker
Guest colinp Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 its soo much better and u can use the extra power 2 encode the sound at a better level for a much better experience and still get 25 fps
Guest t3dluke Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 It also has faster RAM than the mpx 200 and 220.
Guest ClintEastman Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Now if i win one of the c500 i will go about making new settings for it (otherwise it's a wait till next year!!!!) But i sould imagine the c500 should beable to crack along at a good pace!
Guest SeaneyC Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 The spidey trailer looks freakin awesome on the C500 Mr Eastman! I just ran the benchmark thing in betaplayer by accident, and it ran at over 200% Does that mean you can really push the bit rate up? I'd love to see how high we can go, the bit with the car and Dr Oc stomping in is still the tiniest bit blocky, maybe it would help that out?
Guest t3dluke Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 When I get mine tomorrow I'll start laying into it with some high bit rate trailers. Matrix Reloaded is always a killer!

If i get time at the weekend i might take a "Shot in the Dark" at some new settings and encode a new trailer for C500. Any suggestions on what trailer? :)
Guest MaximilianWeisheit Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Can somebody post a good converter for PC trailors to Smartphone format? Where do I get this converter? Do I need to know any special settings when converting? If Yes which are these? Do you use the windows player to play the video's or do you have special players? (are those freeware or you gotta buy them?) - Is the Windows player (with full screen now) any good? Is there a webpage where I can download cool trailors, that are already formated for Smartphones? Total newbie to video on smartphones. - maybe somebody can bring some light to me. Thanks, Max

Guest t3dluke Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 You have to convert mov to avi with quicktime and avi to small avi with virtualdub
Guest taxmanken Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 Lo peeps, Pleased to see such a good turn out in response to my question. I got my C500 yesterday but have not tried to encode to it yet as my miniSD erm lives up to the name. Overall well pleased with the phone. I just wish I had not blown 50 notes on a 512mb sd card last month 8-( BTW go to all your usual outlets and see the funny looks you get when asking for a miniSD. I have been offered evertything from a SD to XD and a few looks which implied I was a complete lunatic. To many muppets in shops that sell merchandise we all want. Wot a waste.
Guest MaximilianWeisheit Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 Thanks for the short explainaition what to do with video to convert them into smartphone, but... I was wodnering if there is a nice Step by Step guide, how to convert .avi. mpg etc to Smartphone videos. Maybe sombody can please direct me to it thanks. In addition, is there a location / like a "Smartphone" Videos libary, with lots of videos that are already converted into the Smartphone format. - Webpage, Mirc, FTP?!?! post here or pm me. Thanks, Max
Guest t3dluke Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 Convert them using virtualdubmod (get this from www.doom9.org) and use the filter options; resize 220x176 and rotate2 90 deg cubic 4x4 and click expand to fit. You'll also want the lame acm codec installed or the ogg acm codec (search google for these) and convert audio to that (its under streams). For compression of video use divx 5.2. Finally the fastest mpeg4 player for smartphone is betaplayer (search google) just make sure its the smartphone and not PPC version you get. Happy Encoding!
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 There is a known problem with GAPI on the C500 that impacts the performances of games and video applications. We are working with the Betaplayer developer toward a solution to this issue. Stay tuned.
Guest MaximilianWeisheit Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 can the C500 play mepg1 with the windows media player?
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 can the C500 play mepg1 with the windows media player? No, for MPEG you need PocketTV Classic (free from www.pockettv.com ) or PocketMVP (free from www.pocketmvp.com - not sure it works with the C500). for DivX, the best player is Betaplayer (free from http://betaplayer.corecodec.org ).

Guest The PocketTV Team Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 On BetaPlayer, I just change the Video driver to GDI instead of GAPI and it works fine You can turn off Fast Video with PocketTV, it's equivalent... but GDI is much slower. We are working on a solution that works without having to use GDI (a very slow graphic layer, not suitable for video).
