Guest Spvguy Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 Hi there, one of my mates has been programming his phone using the smartphone SDK software and realised it isnt so difficult to get polyphonic ringtones to work on the SPV. Hes simply modified the codac on the windows media player to enable MIDI tones to play on it. This is pretty cool considering there are some crap ringtones on the SPV. :D
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 You sure your friend isn't telling pork pies? P
Guest pibrahim Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 Come on then, spill the beans! You can't make a post like that and expect us not to ask how he did it/etc., so fill us in :D Midi tones already play, but only monophonic - you sure your friend got Midi1/2 polyphonic tones working?
Guest pibrahim Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 Also, WMP surely isn't even used for processing ringtones?!
Guest chewie Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 Also, WMP surely isn't even used for processing ringtones?! Thats exactley what i was thinking, you literely took the words straight outta... err off of my... keyboard :D
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 It actually makes sense that the same codecs would be used? P
Guest chewie Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 ^Hmmm suppose? Although what was the point in MS making a midi codec for WMP which cant even play midi files properly? Has anyone even tried playing a midi in WMP? does it sound exactley the same? I assume that the codec wouldn't need any sort of certification? If this chap truely has hacked to play midi1/2 polyphone then get it on the net so we can all stick it on our SPV's :D
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 The codec is probably a DLL, in which case it WOULD need certification. I'm setting up the SDK atm, so will try playing a MID in that, and then start tinkering :D P PS 504 posts, wupah!
Guest chewie Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 PS 504 posts, wupah! WTF is wupah? You been watching freinds recently?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 I do watch LOTS of Friends, but i'm not sure 'wupah' is a valid Friends-ism? The would be OH---MY---GOD, 503 --- POSTS! or perhaps Could I BE more active on the forum? 503 posts! :D P
Guest chewie Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 ^ oh it is my friend, Chandler says wupah whilst doing a whip snapping mime. Everyone else is taking the piss outta him cuz i whip doesnt sound like wupah!
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 BTW Friends Episodes work really well encoded for the SPV - I have them all on DVD, so thought i'd try a few. V nice! And before any asks, NO! I'm not posting them online :D P
Guest pibrahim Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 I'm not so sure... WMP supports .mp3, .wmv, etc., but ringtones only support .wav or .midi, I asked Neil Enns (MS) about whether .mp3s could be used as ringtones and IIRC he sounded doubtful, so I'm not convinced there's much overlap between WMP and the ringtones. Regardless, the whole thing sounds a bit dubious!
Guest Spvguy Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 hi there, I spoke to my mate about this and basically he said he was able to program an "emulator" to make the phone ring. Its just a basic midi emulator, now what he means i dont have a clue, i think what hes saying is that hes programmed his phone to play polyphonice tones BUT they arent polyphonic ringtones as they arent recognised as spv ringtones if you know what i mean. I will keep you updated with this information.
Guest pibrahim Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 Wouldn't an emulator need to be signed?
Guest Thurstan Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 Paul, I'm interested in your post about encoding stuff from dvd to work on SPV. How can you do this? Also, which movie files are supported by SPV? I can't seem to get any to work when I click on them on the web, it just says file not supported. Sorry for 2 questions in 1 post...
Guest chewie Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 Thurstan I suggest you look here and here
