Alarm, radio and Glasgow sighting

Hi,

Just been to St. Enoch Centre in Glasgow and looked at a C500. I like it very much! They had 3, one sold already apparently.

Anyway, the Orange advertisement in the Orange shop states that the C500 has a radio - I take this is wrong ?

Also, the bloke who I was talking to said that the alarm will function even if the phone is switched off. Is this also untrue ? (in the FAQ it says that the phone has to be on).

Anyway, I'm on PAYG at the moment but might just have to go back onto contract to get this phone. It was just what I'm looking for.

There is no FM radio on the phone as with all smartphones so far. The radio function (now named Flight Mode) is to turn on or off the Radio Stack, i.e. the bit that allows the phone to connect to the orange network. Useful on planes as it's that which interfers with the plane's system.

And yes, the phone does have to be switched on for the alarm to go off but that's not exactly a major problem now the battery is at least half decent (24 hours now, heavy usage and still 3 bars)

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I kind of knew that there was no FM radio but it was clearly stated in the shop. So I was somewhat surprised.

I did wonder about the alarm clock function - at first I was put off with the idea of having to leave it on but I guess it's no big deal.

Is there a profile that will allow the alarm to sound but without allowing any incoming calls or text messages to wake you up ? ie in silent mode will the alarm still sound ?

If you don't want to be disturbed from a good nights kip by calls and text messages then best thing is to put it in flight mode. The alarm still sounds but you won't get any calls or texts through.

I was the person who bought the first handset from the St. Enoch Centre in glasgow:)

I think it was last friday, anyway even got a broadband modem for £5, which i gave to the landlord of the flat im renting in glasgow atm. If its activated soon theres hope of me getting a decent internet connection this week :)

Many, many years ago there was this mechanical thing people used to have on their bedside tables that you had to wind up every day, full of little springs and cogs and it would ring an actual bell (much like that T610 ring tone!) at the desired time every morning. Very reliable, not prone to power failure or flat batteries as long as you remembered to wind it up every day. Something like that?

There was a sign under the dummy phone in the Orange Shop when I got my C500 saying that it had Radio..

I didn't think much of it - but thought that it was kewl to have that as well. It was not until a day or so later that I remembered and was trying to find it in the instructions that i realised that I was cheated! :)

Still a great phone though... would have been nice to have as a extra - a total portable entertainment unit (MP3s, Video & radio).

I like to go to the suchiehaul street orange store , really friendly staff who actually seem to know what your on about when your talking about smartphones .. :)

If I buy a c500 , it will be from there :P

Does anyone know if their exists a handsfree headset which incorporats an fm radio (Nokia sells one) and that could be used with the c500 ?
