Ringtones

Added Sounds folder to storage as manual says, but settings never found it.

Dumped wavs in windows and they work, looks like thats where home screens goto cant see an IPSM folder anywhere.

Does C500 allow for ring tones and home pages off storage card, without use of 3rd party apps.

BTW phones gorgeous :) got C500 homescreen on but only that worked no extra screens.

Going to video drive to work as thats what most demos on web seem to be of for some reason

My missus REALLY wants to change her homescreen and her (admittedly awful) selection of ring tones. Haven't had the chance to have a look yet but does anyone know where ringtones and homescreen images reside?

I can only get them to be available if I put them in My Documents, if I make a sub-dir (called Ringtones) they can't be found.

I'm a born-again newbie though, so hopefully someone knows the answer to this.

PS. Can't it play MP3s as ringtones? Never lists my current tones (all MP3s) where ever I put them.

hi folks,

nothing changed from the good old e200 times - put your sound files here:

StorageApplication DataSounds

and your homescreen xml's & pictures for the background here:

StorageApplication DataHome

it does not list mp3's there neither i know if it is possible to play mp3 as ringtone in general - someone else may know better...

cheers, lutz

HI every1, i have ben able to install most home screens using cab files, the MSN homescreen and plug in looks better on C500 than the E200, the resolution is unbelievable.........

HAd the phone 24 hours and no problems whatsoever, just wating for my mini SD card to arrive

@Lutz -or- anyone

Where do I store WAVs that I want as ringtones on the STORAGE CARD?

Can I do that?

Do i really need to worry that much? I have 21+Mb storage left, and a ringtone is generally less than 0.5Mb - but I tend to store most things on the Card which has tons of space

Just put them in the root directory of your Storage Card. They will be available as ringtones but not different tones for different callers.

(Put them in: MySmartphone/Storage Card/)

Some now sound too good. I'd got used to the way they used to sound!

is it possible to use .mp3's as ringtones if you change the ending from .mp3 to .wav i know this works with some other things. such as videos in betaplayer

Sadly not.

You need to actually convert them - dbPoweramp is popular for this and it's free :D

Can this msn home screen be downloaded from the MSN website, and is it a free add on?

It's actually in the Downloads section here - it's not an official MSN work :D

Wonderful program. Far better than Windows Media Encoder.

I'd just like to point something out regarding dbPoweramp.

It seems that even though the application itself is free the mp3 encoder isn't.

Read below.

dBpowerAMP Music Converter™ is Freeware, without Spyware, Bundling or Ad-ware and does not install or alter system files. At anytime uninstall dBpowerAMP at any time using Start >> Control Panel >> Add / Remove Programs.

Important part: dBpowerAMP's mp3 encoder (writer) is on a time limited 30 day trial license, illustrate has provided a 100% free encoder for many years, but a legal challenge (claims of patent infringement) has forced a change, the world cannot have a free mp3 encoder so it seems. This license is purchased through the Power Pack license (a series of enhancements to dBpowerAMP: Faster CD Ripping, Handles Compilation CDs, Preview CDs, ID Tag Editing, DSP Sound Effects and more)...all for $14 [Registration can be made here].

It did use to be completely free as I have a version from a couple of years back.

Can you get away with uninstalling and re-installing, if it leaves no evidence as it suggests? Maybe thats why they make a point of saying it can easily be completely removed, to get round the licencing laws.

Ditto. My version is about 6 months old and I've had no problems with it. I certainly hasn't requested money from me.

I only came across this because I tried to install it on a box at work.

OK, 2 questions really.

1. Is there any way of deleting the original rintones that are on there?

2. How do i change the ringtone for each Profile, only seems i can have a differing ringtones for different people. Trouble is, i want a cool ringtone for GENERAL and then a normal "ringring" for my work profile.

Can this be done?
