Guest Blakey Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Hi, Are there any screen protectors for the c500 (or other smartphones come to that) ? The screen on my e200 is well scratched up after just a few months and I don't want any new c500 I get to go through the same punishment... I'm thinking of the same sort of thing that you can get for pocket pcs. Cheers Blakey
Guest Dr Who Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 I think there is something about this on the coolsmartphone website but that was a LONG time ago. I had the Krussell case for the E100 'bos I work in a harsh environment but in the end I got sick of having an enormous padded brick in my pocket and used it naked. Screen protector would be nice - screen would seem bright enough that a small loss in clarity would not matter.
Guest Nikhil Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Google for JAVOEdge Smartphone Screen protectors. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Dr Who Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Perfect. Anyone know a UK supplier for these?
Guest JasonKenny Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 If it's too late for the screen protector and your sceen is already scratched try Displex....costs a few quid....amazingly it really works and gets your screen back to new. I'm not advocating this web site...just thought I'd save you the trouble... http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/3298.htm Regards Jay
Guest m4rcus Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Or save your money and use T-Cut for cars.... I did. :)
Guest rikwebb Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 I have ordered some digi camera screen protectors from expansys - 2.5 inch. I just hope they fit or can be cut. Rik
Guest Y-Wing Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 I have a Krusell case for my E200, is a bit bulky due to the camera flap but moulds to fit like a glove after a few weeks and has kept the phone in MINT condition. C500 version should be smaller. NB Displex is chemical goop, melts your screen. Posted from my SmartPhone!

Guest Metoo Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Are there any screen protectors for the c500 (or other smartphones come to that) ? Actually one comes free with the C500. You did keep the plastic film didn't you? Stick it on the C500 screen, and CAREFULLY trim it around the bezel so all edges are flush with the screen. The trick is to cut it so that the edges of the film lie flat next to the bezel, so cannot be caught or lifted under normal use. Once you've cut to size, take it off, clean the screan and rinse the film under a tap. Shake it dry, and apply gently to the c500, squeezing out bubbles as you go. Once positioned correctly, smooth out using a credit card, making sure all the edges are flat. You can reposition the film by sliding it gently with while it is wet. Don't worry about slight specks of water causing bubbles, these will disappear over a day or two as it dries out. Leave the screen overnight until it has dried and adhered. If you make a mess of it, rinse and start again. Voila, one free custom screen protector. At worst it'll protect the sceen for a few months until the proper accessories start appearing. But because you don't use a stylus, it won't get the wear of a PDA screen, so no need for the expensive polymers. I did the exactly same with the film that came with a new Nokia 6210, and it's still as good as new four years later!
Guest Zahid Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 My C500 didn't have the usual plastic film on the screen !? I made sure that it wasn't a demo model, and that the box was sealed before I opened it. Did anybody get a C500 without a film on the screen ?
Guest forster Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 My genious Orange retailer took it off before I could say anything whilst in store and screwed it up into a ball >_
Guest Phil Lee Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 My upgrade phone direct from Orange came without the screen protector on it.
Guest zippy172 Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 As M4rcus said.. T-Cut will polish out any fine scratches acrued over time... Failing that, you can buy PDA screen protectors from your local Maplin store.. Not sure on price nowadays but they worked a treat trimmed down for my ancient 7650 :!:
Guest rikwebb Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Got some from Jessops camera store. £3.90 for three very large digital camera protectors. Will do the C500 about 9 times. They are very clear and come with cleaning pads and scraper thingy for getting the bubbles out. They are better than the PDA screen protectors I got from expansys. They where 'grey' and 'grainy'. Rik
Guest supermoocow Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Don't worry about waiting for a c500 specific protector. I've used am old ipaq protector, u should be able 2 get a couple of protectors a sheet. Making ur own is easy as the c500 screen has a raised edge that is great 2 make a template. Guest Phil Lee Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 Thanks for the tip about getting a screen protector from Jessops. I went there last night and now have one fitted on my C500 after a couple of abortive efforts. For some reason finger prints don't show up nearly so much on the protector. It also seems to disguise the few dust particles that have got into my phone.
Guest MaximilianWeisheit Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Is Javoedge out of Business??? Cant seem to connect to there website. ---- Never mind I got in bought it and works awesome!
Guest Dr Who Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Well, I used the ones from Jessops and I have to say I am pretty disappointed. They are very reflective in direct light and look pretty poor when the screen is not lit up. They look OK when the screen light is on and you are not in daylight/strong light though.
