In the manual it says I must charge it for 3 hours the first time. After 10 mins on charge, the light turned green.

It has been on for and hour and a half and I am pissing myself with excitement about setting it all up, plus my original sim is now swithed off. Can I play now, does it REALLY need 3 hours charge?

Yes, even though it is fully charged after ten, I kept mine going for about 3 and a half hours.

Walk away from the phone !

Wipe yerself down and leave it charging.

First charge is vital for battery performance.

Yes, you NEED to. I did and my battery lasts with 65 hours standby and 3 and a half hours talk time

Can't you set it up with the cable still attached...?

When I ordered the phone an Orange representative told me to charge the phone for 16 hours, but the C500 manual says a minimum of 3 hours.

Therefore how long should you charge the phone for? Does it make any difference to charge it initally longer than 3 hours?

Doesnt make any difference if its longer than 3 hours, overnight would be nice.

With Li-ion batterys you have lots of little cells. When you get a new battery the battery management may not be aware of all the cells, and will only report on the cells it knows about, so can get a false fully charged signal. When you charge the cells the battery management does a quick bit magaic and realises there are other cells it needs to count.

I've had my phone plugged in at work since about 11am, so it's been charging for about 6 hours by now.

Do you think this is enough time to maximise the battery life?

Is there any additional benefit to simply going home and leaving it overnight?

a six hour charge should be more than enough.

oh man, i know the feeling buddy, its shouting "play with me, im all new and shiny, im gonna amze you boy, i DARE you to turn me on" 8-[

Temptation is for the weak, [-X i suggest 5 days to charge it, just to see if ya a man or mouse.

weeellll, carephonewarehouse told me no more than 8 hours, probably only 4 are needed tho, i gave mine an hour or so on charge (charger only) then switched it over to usb charge while i synced it/played :) - i then left it on charge overnight.

i (pretty much) always do this kind of thing, my first charges are rarely perfect, and i never ave any trouble. :-/

I played with mine straight away.

It only had about 2 hours charge in the first 3 days, and never dropped below 80%

I don't understand how you can *NOT* play with it straight away! I must be weak

My understanding is that although you should give it a good charge first time around, the best practice is to ensure that for the first few charges try to avoid topping it up until it is really low. Although modern batteries dont suffer from memory effect as much as the older types it does still happen.

You should thus ensure that the phone is allowed to run right down regularly.

lol jimbouk, you're wrong...

this may still be the case for other devices you have (which use certain battery types) but for lithium ion, its just plain wrong to run it right down, at all.

The battery was meant to be charged for three hours?

I left it alone charging, when I came back to it an hour and a half later I saw that the green light had come on. I assumed that was it charged and ready to go, so disconnected and started using it, oopsie... must really start reading product manuals :)

mine came fully charged, used out of the box, no problems so far (although, only used it for about 10 mins before plugging in and continuing to use it) :)

(my spv and e100 also came fully charged, used those straight away also, and both of them have great battery performance)

Oh, and as Meatgrinder said, you shouldnt actually let Li-Ion batterys fully discharge, there is a ircuit which is 'supposed' to prevent damage upon complete discharge, but i have heard stories of batteries being damaged if allowed to discharge fully lots of times.

This is why a lot of people had trouble with ipods and weakened battery life??

same as midnight, already fully charged so i just got on an used it :)

even with bluetooth on all the time battery life pisses all over my e200 .. 3 days with no charge and only dropping one bar.. e200 would be dead in a day :?

First post and a owner of a spanking brand new Black SPV C500. Im itching to get going with it but im wondering is there anyone who did leave the charge for 16 hours and not play?

Mine's sitting in the other room saying "please play with me"

I left both of the C500's I've had for the recommended 3 hours.

oh bother.

There was charge in my phone so i played.....

I also didn't bother to charge mine and the battery life seems very good so far. I was under the impression that with li-ion batteries it didn't matter how long the first charges were, as they don't have the memory effect of older types.

dunno if this is me being weird,

but, i''ve found a full charge off the mains charger lasts longer than a full charge off the usb connection...

strangely.
