Is orange care worth £5 a month? Do they cover the phone if you drop it and damage it cosmetically?

I like the idea of it, especially as its a contract phone, but im still not sure!

I opted out when they told me there was a £50 excess.

So aswell as giving them £60 for the insurance they also want £50 everytime you want to claim.

I think the £15 only applies to lost stolen or damaged. ie, be more careful next time, we are trying to put you off claiming for a damaged phone because you dropped it when you were drunk and chipped some paint.

I've never had any problems getting a replacement due to faults (buzzing earpieces, joystick not working) without paying £15 and without care half the time.

I think they try it on now and then with the £15 fee. I was told that this was an admin fee. They tried to charge me when my E200 joystick failed after 2 months. After a bit of an arguement they finally dropped it.

As for if Orange Care is worth while thats something you'll have to weigh up for yourself. How careful are you with your phones in the past and can you afford to replace the handset if you dont take out the cover?

If you don't fancy Orange Care, there's always Emergency Replacement, a fixed fee to replace a lost/stolen/damaged/faulty phone. Used to be around £60, but I think it depends on the model of the phone.

Not a bad option if you don't have care, but it aint promoted much !

Personally, I don't bother with Orange care (or any extended warranties for that matter).

If the phone breaks down within the first year you're cover by the Sale of Goods Act. If I accidentally damage or lose my phone, my household insurance covers it. If the phone breaks down after 12 months, then I would probably just get a new one for free (or a minimal fee) on an upgrade, or on a new contract.

You may get quicker turn around times with a care plan, should the phone malfunction, but in my case I have other phones which I could use as a temporary measure, so it's not important.

It's personal preference when all is said and done, though.
