Welcome to the site :)

Without knowing more details about about what the blutooth unit

is on your car ie make model etc

It would be better to get BMW to explain why they are saying it will not work as it's more their problem by the sounds of it.

BMW bluetooth car kits will not work with e200 / smartphone 2. The kit does not support the correct BT profile for the (poor) one on the phone.

The phone only has 'Headset' profile, and not the correct version to use BMW kits.

I am currently waiting to try the C500 with my mates Beemer, I will let you when I have tested..

Hope this helps

:) Thanks for your quick response but :P for BMW. They tell me that they have Bluetooth 1 installed in their cars and that the i-mate phone uses Bluetooth 2 which is incompatible. Phones using Bluetooth 1 include Motorola and Sony Erikson so shall I change my phone or buy a different car? Or is there some other way I can make it happen?

Cheers

I would be very interested to see if you get any updates as i'm currently using by BMW kit as a headset, BMW should provide an update to BT 2.

Just been reading about this very topic in this weeks Autocar magazine (page 23).

Some people complained about the problem so Autocar got onto BMW. Their answer:

"the onus was on owners to check that their phones were compatible by logging onto www.bmw.co.uk/bluetooth"

and the company admitted their engineers couldn't keep up with some of the rapid development in phone software technology!

One poor BMW owner was told by his dealer to go and buy another phone!!

That's customer service for you - but serves you right for buying a beemer :)

For your information there are NO smartphones listed that I can see.

 Thanks for your report, boysweek. Without wanting to be racist, I'd have to think German arrogance. The other features on the new beemers are so advanced and useful that you wonder why they can't keep up with a standard like Bluetooth.
