Hi...

I have checked not only this site, but mobilegadgetnews.com as well and have used every suggestion on how I should configure my settings...

This is what I have so far.. I am in the Los Angeles area

Internet Connection: Set to CINGULAR GRPS

WAP Connection: Set to CINGULAR GRPS

CINGULAR GRPS

connects to; The internet

Access point: wap.cingular

User Name: [email protected]

PASSWORD: ZJULDAGEN98810

Primary DNS: blank

Secondary DNS: blank

IP; BLank

Proxy Settings

Connects From : The Internet

Connects to : WAP network

Proxy: 66.209.11.61:9201

Type: HTTP

User Name: Blank

Password: Blank

Autmatically Detect Settings : Unchecked

Select Network: WAP Network

I have double checked with cingular and am connected to the service

When I try and connect, the "G" shows up, but about 30 seconds later I get an Error message "unable to connect"

Thoughts???

Hi jhendu

If you get 'unable to connect' then there could be a few things causing it.

Have you tried other APN's (Access Point Names) ?

I haven't tried any other names...mainly because I didn't see any others or realize there could be...

do you know where I might find that?

Thanks

There will be an APN for GPRS Internet, GPRS WAP and GPRS MMS.

You can get a connection fail if there is a fault between the cell and the SGSN but we will assume for the moment there are no faults.

The other reason for a connetion failure is that the APN is not listed in the SGSN for you as a subscriber. So what you really need to do first is to test each APN (+username and password) to see which ones allow connections. Note: Successfull page loading or 'page not found' error means you are successfully connected and the APN is available to you.

I would first delete all existing dialup, proxy and GPRS conenctions.

Create a new GPRS connection

Description: Cingular GPRS

Connects to: The Internet

Access point: WAP.CINGULAR

User name: [email protected]

Password: ZJULDAGEN98810

In Settings-Data connections set 'Internet connection: Cingular GPRS'

In Internet Explorer, Menu-Options-Conenctions, untick 'Auto detect settings' and make 'Select network: The Internet'

Try to connect to GPRS by accessing a wesite in IE.

(note down the exact result including error decription)

Then edit the the above GPRS connection and try

Access point: ISP.CINGULAR

User name: [email protected]

Password: CINGULAR1

All you are looking for at this point is a successful connection. Let us know if either give you sucessful page loading or 'page not found' error.

What is up my Cingular brotha,

I have the mpx200 on cingular, I've had it for 3 months now.

OK first of all here are the settings that work with your phone.

WAP Settings for GPRS Profile

Create new GPRS connection.

Description: Cingular WAP

Connects to: The Internet

Access point: WAP.CINGULAR (all caps)

User name: [email protected] (all caps)

Password: ZJULDAGEN98810 (all caps)

Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0

Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0

IP address: (blank)

You might need to give it a day. Don't ask me why.

Second make sure you buy the MEdia plan. The mpx200 will use wicked crazy amounts of internet. Your little mpx200 is a computer as far as the network is concerned, and you are basicly using it as a modem for a minilaptop. So you are downloading regular sized pages. It adds up fast. In a matter of five days I got a $38 charge.

Next, I'm not sure that the MPX200 lets go of the connection. I have charges from midnight. I have four kids, I'm lucky to stay up past 10.

Long story short, you can get it to work, pay for the Media plan. Save some dough. Where are you located?

I'm in Bakersfield, CA so we are on the same network. I guided a guy in LA in this a few weeks ago and it worked. On your original post some things were not in caps, did you make sure they were?

Secondly put your settings in and reboot

Make sure you have the Cingular GPRS selected in your connections.

Lastly give it a day or so with those settings. For some reason on Cingular I've found it takes a while for the settings to work. It is kinda strange

Where are you seeing proxy. The only proxy I see is under proxy connections, and I'm sure you are setting up under GPRS connections.

Automaticlly detect IS checked

Lots of tips on this phone, PM me with Yahoo or aim or MSN messenger screen name and we can talk.

G in the center means, it sees the network, G over the bars means is connected to the network.

Hi jhendu

Sorry for not replying earlier. I generally use the PC in the evening for big posts and use mobile modaco during the day for keeping up with events.

How did the connection suddenly work. Did you have the top centre G displayed when it was failing to connect before ?

Good to see you finally got it working :)
