Guest dbiallos Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 Saw this... (http://msmobiles.com/news.php/2984.html) and it mentioned that the C500 lacks the GSM850 band - does this mean I cannot use it in the USofA? I plan to buy one here in the UK before moving to the US and obviously won't if it has no chance of working (I thought being Triband will guarantee it works in the USofA)
Guest chanceu Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 Depends on where you are and who your provider is. In order to roll out GSM faster, Cingular used their existing 850MHz network in some areas. However AT&T and T-Mobile built their GSM network from scratch and they use 1900MHz and have pretty good coverage in most major metro areas. I have no idea what will happen with the AT&T and Cingular networks after the acquisition is complete. The C500 uses the same bands and the HTC Voyager and people are using them in the US. I have no doubt you can use the C500 in the US as long as it is SIM free and you choose the right provider. FYI...I have been using an O2 XPhone with AT&T in Atlanta for sevearal months now and it works fine. Worked fine in Rochester, NY as well.
Guest MaximilianWeisheit Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 AT&T runs on GSM 850 and GSM 1900. Thus no problem!
Guest chanceu Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Still depends on the area. I have an O2 XPhone and originally signed up with Cingular in the Atlanta area. In this area Cingular has ONLY 850MHz, but I thought it would still work since T-Mobile and AT&T have great 1900MHz converage in the area. What I found was that at the time Cingular did not have a roaming agreement with T-Mobile nor AT&T in the southeast, thus the phone would not work with a Cingular SIM since it couldn't handle 850MHz and couldn't roam to any of the 1900MHz networks.
